Kimonos: The Epitome of the Layering Piece

1

Who doesn’t love a good kimono (or three)? They are an AMAZING transitional piece that can take you through all of the seasons, they are cozy, AND they are super fun and flattering. So, we will go ahead and start by saying that you definitely need to invest in a few kimonos to switch up your looks all year round.

For starters, kimonos are so versatile since they come in infinite combinations of colors, lengths, short sleeve, long sleeve, patterns, and fabrics. This is our absolute favorite part about kimonos and is what makes them so great for year-round style.  They have the ability to make you feel fashionable, feminine, and cool, while still letting your personal style shine. The kimono is a staple piece in your wardrobe that can be easily incorporated into your personal, day-to-day style.

You can wear kimonos during the summer months by choosing a lightweight, floral kimono and pairing it with a basic tank or tee, ripped jean shorts, and your favorite summer sandals.  Or, throw a patterned kimono over your swim suit when you are headed to the pool for a cool, yet fabulous, look.  For the cooler months, rock a duster kimono that is toned with autumn colors, a tank or lightweight sweater, ripped (or clean!) skinny jeans, and your go-to heeled booties! This look is so great since you can also switch up the look by substituting your kimono for a cardigan! A timeless look for every season is throwing a kimono over your favorite sun dress! If it’s chilly, wear a pair of tights or leggings underneath to stay warm. Going for a night out look? Opt in for a silk or velvet kimono with a more tailored look, dark wash denim, and your best dancing heels!

Get Your Stripes On

header

Horizontal or vertical, thick or thin, we do not discriminate stripes at any time throughout the year. So, if you’re like any of us, you consider stripes to be a pretty core part of your year-round wardrobe.  This being said, go ahead and get your stripes on!

Stripes are super flattering, trendy, and mostly considered a basic! We are seeing stripes in so many sizes and colorways in 2018, and we are all about it. We are here to tell you that if you wear your stripes strategically, you won’t be disappointed.  Vertical stripes, such as pinstripes, create a slimming and lengthening affect.  Vertically striped pants and dresses lengthen your legs and torso and make your façade more visually appealing. If you are trying to make your shoulders or hips look bigger and fuller, opt for horizontal stripes!  These patterns will help you create a more proportionate look as well. From tops, pants, dresses, and even shoes, stripes are making their appearance known in today’s fashion world. So, why not add to your collection obsession?

The best thing about stripes is that you can find something that fits for any occasion.  They are a great print for all ages, too! For a casual vibe, pair a striped tank or cropped top with your favorite pair of boyfriend jeans or mini skirt.  Or, if you’ve got a date night or party planned, whip out a chic striped jumpsuit or dress and everyone won’t be able to stop talking about your look!

Keeping all of this in mind, you really can’t go wrong with striped clothing! Now, go ahead and get your stripes (and shopping) on! Shop now at www.gliks.com 🙂

Tips and Tricks for Mixing Prints

header

One of the best, and most exciting, things about fashion is that there are endless possibilities.  There are so many variations to mix and match the clothes you already have in your wardrobe; it is impossible to get bored! A good rule of thumb to live by is to wear what makes you feel confident and comfortable, while not being afraid to step out of your comfort zone.  That is where today’s topic comes in: mixing prints.

Now, you may be thinking, “there is no way I could ever pull that off!” Or, “I never know where to start or if the patterns actually match WITHOUT matching.” Mixing prints can be so simple and subtle, or big and bold, whatever your preference. We are here to give you a few tips and tricks on how to mix different patterns and prints, for year round style!

1. Match colors, Not prints

match colors

One of the simplest places to start is by having a black and white color scheme.  Try mixing a polka dot top with some striped pants, while making sure the colors match!  This is a great start for someone who is unsure of whether or not they can pull off mixing prints. However, we encourage you to be a little more daring and try a certain colorful color scheme instead.

2. Break up the look with solids

break up with solids

This is a personal favorite tip! Start by layering up your tops by wearing a solid color base or a chambray button up or a chic blazer! Then you can incorporate different patterns on your pants or under shirt. This tricks your mind into adapting to the fact you are mixing prints, yet breaking it up with a matching solid color!

3. Mix prints with different size scales

size scale

Having variations of size scales with your look helps add structure. This look can be achieved by wearing a blouse or sun dress with tiny floral print and pairing it with a denim jacket that features a bold striped design or pants that feature a large checkered print. Just make sure that the colors are coordinated!

4. Textured fabrics count as a print

textured

This tip is super easy to incorporate into your wardrobe without giving it much thought.  Some examples of textured fabrics include: silk, leather, lace, tweed, or even textured sweaters with inverted patterns.  Slip on a leather skirt and pair it with a striped top with a plaid button up tied around your waist! Voila!

5. Stripes are considered neutrals

This is a huge tip to remember! Vertical stripes are always your friend, yet horizontal stripes are definitely a close acquaintance as well. If you are hesitant about mixing prints, start with a striped top, dress, pants, skirt, what-have-you. Then, pair with a fun, colorful print such as paisley, floral, boho, or diamonds. You can’t go wrong with mixing and matching patterns with a staple like stripes!

6. Match the same print in different colors

gingham

This is a fun way to invent your own version of two-piece sets! Match a black and white gingham tank with red and white gingham shorts, and you are all set for a summer day. Or, pair a colorful square print top with fun printed pants for spring, or throw on a fair isle cardigan with matching colors for a fall day.

7. Use accessories to mix prints

accessories

Bold accessories are super trendy right now, so don’t shy away from them! Mix and match prints by accessorizing with a plaid scarf, gingham heels, chunky statement earrings, a bamboo beach hat, or a palm print or leopard print clutch.

We hope these tips and tricks have helped feed your imagination for the combinations you choose! There are simply endless possibilities for fashion, so just remember to step out of your comfort zone once in a while and rock mixing and matching prints! Start your shopping now at gliks.com!

How to Wear Piko Tops 3 Different Ways

Do You Piko?

If you have never heard of or worn a Piko, then you have been missing out.  Piko tops and dresses are the most versatile piece of clothing you will ever own.  These tops and dresses are made with bamboo fabric and are oversized, yet flattering. Piko tops and dresses also come in many different colors and styles.

As an added bonus, Piko clothing is super easy to launder. If you’re anything like me, that factor can make or break your love for a garment. All you have to do is machine wash them in cold water with like colors and tumble dry on low. Easy peasy, right?

The fit of a Piko can be intimidating to some, but fear not because we’ve got your back, girl. Read on to see our three favorite ways to wear Pikos.

Piko + Bralette:

WHITE_PIKO_SHIRTBralettes are great to add to a top that has a open back.  Try adding a lace racerback bralette to a double v-neck Piko top. This will give your Piko an edgier vibe.

Piko + A Front Tuck:

White_Piko_Shirts

Another great way to style a Piko top is to front tuck them.  Since Piko tops are slightly oversized, they front tuck very easily.  Just tuck in the front part of your Piko into your jeans and let the back hang out.  If your jeans have a higher rise, you can also tuck a bit of your Piko into one of the  front pocket of your jeans.  Both tucks make these loose fitting tops look a little more trendy and a little less basic.

Piko + A Knot:

If you want to take your Piko top from boxy to a more tailored look, knot it in the front at your hip. A knotted Piko looks great paired with destructed denim and a cute pair of sandals.

The Best Boyfriend You’ll Ever Have…

boyfriend jeans

Why are you not wearing boyfriend jeans yet? No, really. Gone are the days of only wearing stick-straight-second-layer-of-skin-looks-great-but-man-it’s-hard-to-breathe skinny jeans.

This relaxed fit has been around for quite some time, but the trend is really picking up steam for spring 2016 thanks to celebs and fashion bloggers. Part of the appeal is that the boyfriend cut is just as easy to style as it is comfortable to wear.

These slouchy jeans are a staple for Saturdays and when paired with the right top and shoes, will look polished. From pairing with white Piko tops to printed blouses to structured jackets, boyfriend fit jeans have endless styling potential.

She was an American Girl

Happy first day of summer people! Known as the summer solstice, today is the longest day of the year and the official beginning of summer.  We’re so excited for this season to begin and want to take full advantage of all the sunlight’s benefits!

For me, summer holds many memories, roadtrips and camping with friends, days spent in the water of our local lake, sand in my shoes from walking the beach, and (most importantly) family gatherings where copious amounts of barbeque is served with an array of side dishes. Oh gosh, you can’t forget sun tea!!! No summer is complete with out it.

Summer also reminds me of fireworks and the 4th of July! A daredevil at heart, I spent a majority of my youth tampering with sparklers and poppers during 4th of July celebrations. I would write secret messages in the air, light four sparklers at once and doodle out designs, or be “that kid” and incite popper battles with my cousins. I have matured since my youth (I swear) and no longer partake in such shenanigans. Now that I’ve entered my older, “adult” years the idea of just relaxing on a blanket with my friends and watching the fireworks from under the St. Louis Arch sounds perfect.

The Americana trend is absolutely huge right now, you can find a bit of red, white, and blue on anything from a pair of denim shorts, to tops, sneaks, and even scarves!

Here are just a few of our favorite 4th of July looks:
