Back to School Styles: Fall Preview 2018

It’s almost August, which means it’s time to start thinking about back to school shopping! I know some of you may be thinking, “UGH, do we have to?!” But, back to school shopping can be super fun since it’s the time when you get to start picking out your new fall wardrobe and be oh-so stylish walking down the halls. Keep reading to check out our top picks for Fall 2018!

cardigan

The most staple of all fall outfits is this look. It is great for almost any occasion, and can be SO versatile since there are SO MANY ways to achieve this look! If it were up to us (and this heat wave would go away) we would be wearing a cozy cardigan every single day. Finding a cardigan, or sweater, that is made with a textured knit fabric is the way to go! It gives your look a pattern, while still wearing neutrals.

Denim is also a staple piece to stock up on for fall. As the temps start to drop, you will need a few core styles of denim jeans to rotate through the year! Kancan Jeans and Flying Monkey Jeans are two of our favorite brands that we swear by.  They offer different styles and fits, while all being so comfortable and sculpt to your every move. One of our go-to looks is denim on denim.  This put together look can be achieved by wearing your favorite denim jeans (or jean skirt) and pairing it with a jean jacket or button up chambray top.  To let your personality shine, wear a graphic tshirt underneath or add your unique accessories to add a pop of color.

Shoes

Now, you can’t talk back to school shopping without mentioning the best part: NEW SHOES! Finding neutral booties is a great investment in your fall wardrobe.  They are so great since you can easily dress them up and down, while still remaining comfortable throughout your day.  A few of our favorites are from Qupid Shoes, Soda Shoes, and City Classified Shoes! Also, you can’t forget about your new cool sneakers to complete your athleisure looks for days when you really don’t have the time or energy to be completely glam. 🙂

cc and sherpa

If you haven’t hopped aboard the sherpa train, or if you’ve been living under a rock and have no idea what a sherpa pullover is, now is DEFINITELY the time.  Sherpa is huuuuuge for fall, and now is the best time to stock up on your favorite styles! (PS. These are amazing Christmas gifts.) You never have to worry about being freezing while sitting in class, or putting on a bulky winter coat again.  They are literally so warm and cozy, you’ll never want to take it off! A great pair to sherpa are beanies! CC Beanies are our favorite beanies to wear when it gets cold.  They offer a variety of colors and styles, that you’ll be sure to find one that suits your needs.

Trend Alert: Frayed Jeans

Western Bootie
Fray is the New Fringe

The past few seasons the fringe trend has been a huge hit! Adding a twist to the fringe world, they have added fringe denim, which is known as released hem, raw hem, or even frayed jeans.  The frayed hem doesn’t stop at the jeans. We are seeing frayed shorts, skirts and tops too. The released hem trend isn’t just made on a skinny jean either, but also on a flared denim. One of our favorite brands, Flying Monkey, came out with a cropped skinny jean that features a raw hem and are a must have staple piece for this season!

Rules of the Frayed Jeans:

  1. The frayed hem should hit right at or above the ankle.
  2. Wear your raw hem jeans with pointy pumps, strappy sandals, ballet flats, casual sneakers, or ankle boots.
  3. Only wear one or two raw hem peices at a time, too much fraying could be an overkill.

Frayed Jeans

We paired our released hem Flying Monkey Jeans with an Elan Fringe Sweater giving this outfit the double fray look. Keeping up with all of the trends this season, we layered our sweater over a Criss-Cross Neck Tee. And topping off our look, we paired our raw hem jeans with our Volatile Haisley Western Ankle Bootie to show off that frayed hem.

Athletic Wear to Street Wear

As we saw last summer, it is no longer unheard of to try to pass athletic wear for fashion. Fashion is creatively trying to reinvent itself by turning its back on the constant posh style and leaning towards a more relaxed, laid-back look. This spring, more than ever, we are going to be seeing the gym-inspired attire making its way onto the streets and into everyday wear.

With the rising of the “green movement”, people are moving towards a healthier lifestyle and a cleaner environment, making fitness and working out a priority in their schedule. This is why having a quick transition from activewear to daily wear has become so popular.

Now you can look cute after hitting the gym since over-sized tops, yoga pants, joggers, shorts, and sneakers are completely in style. When they are combined with fashionable pieces, they can create fashion forward ensembles. For example, an Under Armour Half-Zip can be paired with a fashionable vest so you are ready to hit the streets.

A Timeless Pair of Kicks {Keds}

I find it funny that an average everyday object can spark an unexpected flashback to a childhood memory.  Some flashbacks can be sparked from a smell, how something tastes, or from an item/object.  In my case it was a pair of classic Champion canvas sneakers from Keds.

I remember being a little girl and FINALLY getting my first pair of white canvas Keds sneakers. I have no words to express how excited I was when, after years of receiving the “off- brand” sneaks from my mother’s ever easy Wal-Mart trips, to actually open a Keds shoe box and saw a sparkling clean pair of white canvas Champions of my own. I was exhilarated, beyond happy, and I wore those new shoes to school the very next day. Now, to give my mother the credit that she deserves for her smart shopping decisions, I was very much a “tomboy,” and I also remember how sad I was when I scuffed and dirtied up those clean white canvas sneaks. It truly was a sad, sad, sad day.

Those who know me laugh at how “old” I feel, even if I am only in my mid-twenties, but I really do believe that after 96 years of being in business Keds shoes have made a lasting impact on many generations. Ask your siblings, relatives, parents, even grandparents if they remember Keds, and I bet they have a story of their own to share.

In 1916 Keds developed the “original” sneaker (as they like to say): a “feel- like- everyday’s- a- Saturday” shoe. Since it was too long for a name, Keds went with the name “Champion” instead, and through the decades this casually simple canvas shoe has become an American classic.

Color me obsessed with Keds! I still favor this classic sneaker over all the other tennis shoes that I come across, and what excites me even more is that Keds have made their classic “Champion” kicks available in a variety of colors and designs to suit any fashionista’s personal style!

Keds have developed their shoes into a quirky slip on style too!

Keds are a true-blue American classic sneaker that will never fade. Their retro aesthetic has seen a HUGE revival this 2012 year, and I’m happy to say that I will be re-purchasing my favorite childhood sneaks! These timeless sneaks are a Glik’s online exclusive, and while supplies last, you will receive a free gift of custom Keds socks with your purchase when you go to gliks.com to purchase your very own pair.
