College Outfit Essentials

Let me guess, it’s the week or two before school starts, you have all your school supplies and dorm room accessories ready to go but you haven’t even started packing your clothes yet. Because, let’s be honest, who wants to make that decision on what items to bring and what items you have to leave behind.  Well, I am here to make your packing experience a little easier, I have put together a top 10 closest essentials list that I know I wouldn’t be able to live without!

Top 10 Closet Essentials for College

  1. Sweaters
  2. Sweatshirts and pullovers
  3. Your favorite blue jeans
  4. Leggings
  5. A couple of dresses – A sassy, flirty dress and a casual t-shirt dress
  6. At least 5 pairs of shoes – tennis shoes, heels, booties, flats, slides/sandals and rain/winter boots
  7. Hats and Scarves – baseball caps, beanies and blanket scarves.
  8. Bralettes – 1 White, 1 Black and 1 of your favorite color
  9. At Least 7 nice shirts/blouses
  10. A few t-shirts

Dressing for fall is my favorite time of the year! I just love the sweaters and cozy scarves that come along with the colder temperatures. Unfortunately, for packing this makes it harder because usually fall clothing is bulkier and takes up more space. But don’t let that intimidate you, that means you just have to pick out your favorite pieces to take with you.

Piko Sweater Top

I started my list with sweaters, because I love a nice cozy sweater! I would say to pack at least 3 or 4 sweaters, two casual sweaters that matches everything and two statement sweater for going out in. My favorite statement sweater is a lace up sweater.

Sherpa Pullover

My next go item is a sweatshirt. On my lazy days, I just grab my sweatshirt and pair it with my leggings and just bum around campus. You can dress up your sweatshirt and pullover collection by adding a Sherpa pullover, these pullovers will be sure to keep you warm during that nice little walk from your dorm to class.

College Essentials

I know you have to have at least one pair of jeans that you just cannot live without. I know I have at least two. I would pack your favorite jeans and some leggings. You will be living in leggings during class and hanging out in the dorm! They are a must have!

Booties

Don’t forget about your best companions, your shoes. You’ll need at least one pair of tennis shoes and maybe a pair of nude heels that will match everything. Be sure to grab your favorite booties, and some slides or sandals to hang around the dorm in. I would also grab a pair of rain boots or winter boots for those wet and cold days this winter.

Scarves and Hats

When it comes to packing accessories, I would just limit it to hats, scarves and bralettes for the fall semester. Hats will eliminate all bad hair days! Pack at least one baseball cap and a neutral colored beanie. Last fall, my blanket scarf saved me! I would recommend packing at least one or two blanket scarves to keep you warm. My other favorite accessory is a bralette. They layer perfectly under any fashion top or sweater. I would recommend having at least one black and one white lace bralette to help add a little touch to your outfits this fall.

Everly Dress

When it comes to fashion tops and dresses, I wouldn’t pack too many. You will need some for those days that you want to dress up or go out with friends. But, you also want to make sure to leave room in your closet for new items that you will want to buy from the local boutiques near campus.

I know we all have our go to t-shirt that we like to lounge in and it’s okay to bring a few of those with you, but keep in mind that your t-shirt collection will expand during college. There’s always t-shirts being given away on campus and during events.

I hope this has helped you with getting ready for the fall semester and makes your transition into the new dorm less stressful. Just remember, you can always come home and visit during weekends and holidays to grab more clothes!

Outfit of the Day Inspiration

We love when our customers and sales associates share their Glik’s style with us. So, each month we will choose a trend and have our sales associates style it out to show off their different styles. Check out some of the styles we received in March and April!

March Men’s Outfits | BBQ Shirts

For the month of March, our favorite trend was BBQ Shirts for men. We thought the one who wore it the best was our Chairman, Mr. Glik. Although, all of our guy associates rocked this look, it’s hard to beat Mr. Glik!BBQ Shirts

March Women’s Outfits | Off the SHOULDER

For the month of March, our favorite trend for Women was off the shoulder tops and dresses. Our sales associate Paige from our Jasper Glik’s location was voted best to wear an off the shoulder top! Off the shoulder tops and dresses look great on just about anyone and are always fun to style!Off the Shoulder

“Since working at Glik’s, I have really developed my own personal style. In my OOTD photo I was wearing a white off the shoulder Poof top, with a brick colored bralette underneath. I love all of the lace detail on the high neck bralettes, and think they really helped tie together my look. I wore dark washed Flying Monkeys because these are my go to jeans. If you can go comfortable AND stylish that’s always a win in my book! For footwear I had on a pair of City Classified peep toed booties. The taupe canvas with the wooden accent on the heel really helped dress up the entire outfit. To accessorize, I had on a beaded necklace that I chose to style as a layered choker.” – Paige

April Men’s Outfits | Novelty Shirts

For the month of April, our favorite trend was novelty shirts for men. Our fearless leader, CEO, Jeff Glik, took the lead for wearing the best novelty shirt. He styled it with a fun hat and matching Yeti. Although, Jeff got us with his tropical vibes, I think Chad really rocked his dinosaur shirt!Novelty Shirts

April Women’s Outfits | Piko Tops and Dresses

For the month of April, our favorite trend for Women was Piko tops and dresses. Our sales associate Jess from our Vincennes Glik’s location was voted best to style a Piko. If you don’t have a Piko top or dress then I highly recommend investing in one. You will love it! Piko

“I love the Piko because it is so effortless to layer and dress up. Of course, bralettes are everything right now, so adding one to an outfit with a basic tee really makes it a little more special. I am so in love with floral prints this season, so I couldn’t resist the Sweet Claire kimono. Adding a cute pair of KanCans and some peep toes is just the icing on the cake!” – Jess

Glik’s Five Fall Favorites

Five Fall FavoritesHello Autumn! The best season of the year is upon us and I couldn’t be more stoked to bust out my fall wardrobe. Here are my five fall favorites!

Wine Piko Top

Wine is my favorite color this fall and Piko tops are a must have staple piece. Add this color and this top together and you have the perfect fall basic. Dress this fall comfy bamboo top up with a long necklace and as the temperatures drop add a vest to this Piko top.

Long Necklaces

Long necklaces make for great accessory pieces. This neck candy looks great with a scoop neckline and can be adjusted to fit a length that works best for you. Pair a long necklace with a basic top for a classy and simple look.

Tall Riding Boots

Tall riding boots are a must have for fall. They look great with just about anything. Wear them with your skinny jeans and your favorite tops or sweaters for an effortless look.

Distressed Denim

Everyone always makes fun of distressed denim, saying “You paid money for your jeans to look like that?” Well of course we did, because distressed denim is trendy, and we girls love it. And let’s be honest, who wants to sit there and try to cut up their jeans to get the perfect distressed look? Distress denim is perfect for those warm fall days and look great with about any top!

Look by M Shawl Vest

Fall weather can be fickle here in the Midwest, one day it can be 80 degrees and the next day it can be 50 degrees, which makes layering great. One of my favorites this fall is the Look by M Shawl Vest, it is versatile and can be worn as a vest or a scarf.

                           Riding Boots  Long Necklace

Wine Piko tops, long necklaces, tall riding boots, distressed denim, and the Look by M shawl vest are my five fall favorites this year and I hope that you love them just as much as I do!
