How does Patagonia Fit?

how to take better travel photos

Patagonia is an awesome brand that makes clothes that will last a number of years all while trying to reduce their environmental impact.  It makes sense to invest in a piece that will fit you as well as their products will last. Have you been looking at making a Patagonia purchase and you’ve been trying to figure out what size would look best on you? Then keep reading!

While there are many different styles of Patagonia (ex: Los Gatos vest, Synchilla Pullover, Better Sweater, etc) there is only 4 different types of fit for these garments. The four fits are; formfitting, slim fit, regular fit, and relaxed fit. From these four categories we can begin to really figure out which size is the best for you.

Form Fit: The garment should hug your body. These are ideal fit for base layer pieces.

Slim Fit: Should show off your body type but with enough room that you could throw a base layer underneath comfortably.

Regular Fit: This should fit a little looser. You should have enough room under these types of styles to wear a heavier base layer comfortably.

Relaxed Fit: With this style of fit you should have a lot of room and should be able to layer quite a bit under these garments.

Most of our Patagonia that we carry at Glik’s is going to be either regular or slim fit. For the most true to size fit for those pieces you should try to order the size that typically works best for you. If you are confused about what your true size may be, refer to the chart above. You can take your own chest, waist, and hip measurements to see what size would be best!

In the photos below you can see our model wearing a size small and a size medium of the Slim Fit ¼ Better Sweater Fleece Pullover. If you are wanting more of a looser fit on items that are label as Slim Fit, try sizing up for more of that Regular Fit. But on her true size (small)  the garment is a little form fitting but still loose enough that she could add layers underneath.

Warm Thoughts for the Holidays

Are you excited for the holidays? Seriously, Christmas is only 10 days away, and I cannot believe how quickly time has passed. I want to send out a big “Congratulations” to those responsible people who had strategically planned and prepared for this time of year! I bet your Christmas trees are already beautifully decorated and stuffed full of wonderfully wrapped gifts. I’m slightly envious of your “I’m on top of my game” abilities.

I would like to classify myself in that charming group called “the rest of us.” Members of this group like to define their holiday behavior as “risky.” We tend to live on the edge, a daredevil of sorts in regard to our gift giving choices.  Our logical action plan is to stalk the sales, waiting to the proverbial last minute when the final holiday storm hits and the sea of (fellow) holiday shoppers swell and crash like waves of (almost there) bah-hum-bug attitudes.  We are the Evel Knievals of our chosen profession, and we like it!

So… to spread the love AND to assist in producing your warm & cozy, happy holiday thoughts I have compiled a list of MUST-HAVE outdoor apparel from three of our major outerwear brands!  Be sure to check us out online for great holiday deals (sales) on popular brands!

Warm Thoughts for the Holidays

Show Me Your Style with Angela Bruening

Meet Angela.

Not only is she an Area Manager, Angela is also our resident “interior decorator” a.k.a. Visual Merchandiser for Glik’s. Her eye for fashion is equally rivaled (in talent) by her creative mind when it comes to help keeping our stores visually stimulating.

I sat down with this classy lady during the Holiday Regional meetings for a little Q & A and had a nice little chit-chat.

Me: So Angela, how would you describe your personal style?

Angela: I like to keep my style trendy, but age appropriate.

Me: What would you say is one thing that you can absolutely not live without this fall/winter season?

Angela:  My collection of UGG boots and Patagonia Better Sweater (so WARM). I love to be comfy.

Me: There are so many fun trends for this Holiday season. What is your favorite trend so far?

Angela: I love anything with a chevron print– such a classic pattern.

Me: Lastly, would you share with us what your top 3 picks are for this Holiday season?

Angela: Sure. I, of course, love high waist denim right now. It’s such a classic look and a higher waist gives the illusion of longer legs. I am also a HUGE fan of riding boots; pair them with skinny denim, a basic top and a scarf for a classic look that is so versatile. For the guys I would definitely have to suggest the 1897 Denim.

For years Patagonia has been keeping it simple when it comes to life.  Founded by experienced climber Yvon Chouinard in the early 1970’s, this Ventura, California based company humbly began as an outdoors store that specialized in climbing equipment and tools, not apparel.

Yvon Chouinard is a rock climber, an active environmentalist and an outdoor industry businessman. He is most renowned for his contributions to climbing through the development of climbing equipment and the outdoor gear business.

Chouinard is considered one of the most successful businessmen in the outdoor industry alive today. Taking a rather basic approach to how he runs his business and lives his life, Yvon Chouinard is not considered your typical “suit & tie” businessman.   He has built his company on the simplistic ideals that he holds himself. The conclusion being that if he had to be a businessman, then he would build Patagonia on his own terms.

In addition to his love for climbing, Chouinard is also a surfer, kayaker, falconer and accomplished fly fisherman. Aspects of his love for the wild can be seen reflected throughout Patagonia, which is known for it’s heavy focus on the environment.

In fact, it is that very overwhelming love and faith in nature that keeps Patagonia, as a company, firmly “rooted” to its main mission…

“Build the best product, cause no unnecessary harm, use business to inspire and implement solutions to the environmental crisis.”

Patagonia’s Mission Statement

That mission is the fight to save the planet by assuming responsibility for it’s very own actions as a company, then by taking measures to help reverse the negative effect placed on the environment that Patagonia and it’s supporters love so much.  Patagonia continues to take action to reduce, reuse, and renew resources by utilizing only recycled polyesters and organic cottons in the production of its garments.

The Better Sweater Jacket from Patagonia is a great addition to any wardrobe. This soft, men’s full zip polyester fleece jacket features a sweater knit face and a warm fleece interior. The Better Sweater functions as a wonderful layering piece or can hold it’s own on a cool day. The Better Sweater is available in a ¼ Zip and vest option as well.

The men’s Adze Jacket from Patagonia is a durable soft shell jacket that offers total protection from the worst winds. Featuring a moisture-wicking fleece grid liner that keeps you warm and dry in cold weather, the Adze jacket from Patagonia is comparable to the Apex Bionic from The North Face.

The Patagonia women’s Re-Tool Snap-T Pullover is made of Polartec® Thermal Pro® (51% recycled) fleece and rocks ultra feminine seaming to compliment the feminine figure. This super cozy and super soft pullover features a stand-up collar with a 4-snap closure that is reinforced with Supplex nylon and a large front kangaroo hand warmer pocket that blends into the sweater not causing any unflattering bulkiness.  The Re-Tool also comes in a full zip jacket option.

The women’s Down Sweater from Patagonia promises to be your wardrobe’s new cold weather favorite! This ultra light, windproof jacket is highly compressible; just roll it up stuff it into the cool interior pocket feature and then throw it in your backpack or even purse.  The Down Sweater jacket also features an 800-fill goose down insulation, a light, windproof recycled-polyester fabric shell, and comes in a vest style option.

We are very excited to welcome Patagonia to our family of amazing brands here at Glik’s, where we believe that the best paths in fashion are the ones least traveled and that the sky’s is the limit when it comes to personal style. So if your wild side has an itch that needs scratched then lace up your hiking boots and venture out to your local Glik’s store location.  Adventure is always encouraged, so feel free to bait your hook and fish the Internet shopping streams at for any of your apparel needs.
