Summer Dresses~ The Maxi Dress

Summer Dresses

Easily one of the best parts of the summer season are dresses, and while there are so many styles of dresses today, we are going to be talking about the maxi dress. Nothing beats throwing on a dress in the morning and walking out the door looking #flawless. Whether you are wearing a maxi dress for a special occasion or for days of running around town, here are 4 maxi dresses that we are currently crushing on here at Glik’s.

The first maxi dress is by Everly. Everly is a brand that you know will always have quality clothing with a girly, feminine style. This dress is a super versatile wrap dress in a beautiful colorway. Our shoe recommendation would be a simple peep toe mule shoe or try an espadrille platform shoe to give you some height! Honestly, any shoe or accessory would pair well with this dress because of its beautiful neutral color, but you should definitely try and accessorize with your favorite sun hat!

If you want a more casual dress for everyday wear, you have to check out the Elan Clothing Halter Striped Maxi Dress in Navy. It’s a jersey knit dress with on seam hand pockets, and a rounded hem. Try knotting the bottom and putting on some strappy heels with your favorite accessories for a more dressed up look for nights out. We are loving them with some platform espadrille wedges to give you a little height with your look. For a comfier style try pairing it with some super comfy Sanuk sandals for pool days.

We of course have to talk about the two piece maxi dress option. Illa Illa has so many adorable two piece sets that are just perfect for summer. The floral patterns are the perfect summer pattern. This particular set comes in two different colorways and has a shorts lining, which is amazing for days where you want to be on the move and wear a dress. Bonus! ~ you can always pair the top with your favorite distressed shorts and some Borks. Or you can try wearing the skirt with a solid Piko top and some strappy sandals by Soda. There’s really so many outfit options with a two piece set!

The Storia Palm Print maxi dress is another one of our faves. Palm print, ruffles, and off the shoulder are very on trend details of the season, and this dress gives you all of those things in the most stylish way! This dress will look amazing with the City Classified Hudson shoes or any other neutral colored low heel. This type of shoe will perfectly match everything in your closet and you definitely need to add our straw bag to give your look more of those beachy vibes.

The Main Strip Frayed Vneck Sweater

Screen shot 2018-01-08 at 2.17.53 PMScreen shot 2018-01-09 at 4.06.08 PMOkay, so winter may not be my favorite season, but there is always one thing that I love about cold days, and that’s the sweater options! There is something almost magical about getting a new sweater and the Main Strip Frayed Vneck Sweater is a sweater that I have been absolutely smitten with since the first time laid eyes on it. This frayed cropped sweater comes in mustard, grey, mauve, and ivory, which are all beautiful muted tones that go well with whatever shoes, pants, or jeans you can think to wear them with. Definitely one of my favorite things about this sweater is how many things I can wear it with and feel like am an actual vogue-fashionista-model. This sweater makes it easy to look cute and it is the kind of comfy feel-good sweater that you naturally gravitate to!

Another major plus about this sweater is that it can be transitioned into all the seasonal outfits you can think of. Right now I like to wear it with my black ripped Silver denim and throw on my Levi’s denim jacket for a little more edge (and maybe a CC Beanie for a little more warmth)! For a relaxed lazy weekend look, I love this sweater with my high waisted light washed denim and some fuzzy socks when I hang out at my friends’ homes. But as soon as the weather warms up, I cannot wait to style this sweater with a bralette, a faux suede taupe skirt, and ankle booties, for a look to wear at the office or a casual night out!

The Main Strip Frayed Vneck Sweater is the kind of quintessential piece for your wardrobe! No matter what the temperature may be outside this sweater will be there for any look. Now sweater weather can officially last forever (maybe without the cold weather part though).  To shop these looks be sure to head to!

1897: Denim Direction in 2013

It’s the NEW YEAR, and here at Glik’s we’re excited to be introducing new and improved styles from our exclusive brand, 1897 denim.

So what’s new for 2013?

– According to James Glik, Vice President, we should expect to see more styles made available in the Straight Fit group along with updated washes added to the best-selling Low-rise Bootcut fit option.

Along with the new washes, updated back pocket options will be made available. An improved core with a cleaner, western stitching design with be utilized on the back pockets of the 1897 jeans. This new design already has a name, known as the “Jim Pocket,” because the design is actually James Glik’s favorite stitch.

Why are we just so proud of 1897 Jeans?

James Glik, Glik’s very own Vice President & Men’s Buyer:

“This brand is ours, and to date our customers really like what we’re doing with denim. We search the market for what we feel are the best manufacturers in each category that we introduce as “1897” exclusive: tees, wovens, denim, twill shorts, and sweaters. Only the best product is selected from every class, and we work with a different vendor for each.”

So Fresh, So Spring

Maybe it has something to do with the new year starting, out with the old in with the new, right?  It always seems like January is the time when you want to mix things up a little bit and bring some of that “newness” to your style and perspective. 2013 is still super fresh and so are your forward thinking ideas.

This has been the first week–since the endless, mind numbing counting from inventory– that we have been allowed to bust into all of the brown boxes stacked in the back of Glik’s warehouse. It’s always a fun time when you have boxes upon boxes of new spring clothing to sift through and share with others. Call it the “perks of the job,” and probably the reason why my wardrobe is always on the edge of erupting like a volcano of color and fabrics.

This week new arrivals from BB Dakota and Jack Clothing for Spring 2013 started to arrive. I felt inspired so I  threw together a few outfits that incorporated new styles with already existing.

Say hello to throwback floral prints and bight splashes of accent colors.

So Fresh, So Spring

With the addition of several new locations to our family, (Grand Haven & Holland, Michigan, Moberly, Missouri, and Jacksonville, Illinois) 2012 was a pretty cool year for us.

Nostalgic flashback

What began in downtown St. Louis, Missouri in 1897 has grown to 60 stores in nine states. Crazy, huh? Homegrown in the Heartland of the Midwest, Glik’s has remained to its roots… family. Isn’t that where all things worthwhile and important start? Family owned for four generations, we are proud of 115 years of history.

We hold ourselves accountable to providing you quality clothing and on-trend fashion. Glik’s is already looking ahead into 2013 and the future looks bright!

We are on a quest in 2013 for domestically produced fashion! Helping to promote and create more jobs in America is the goal (call it our New Year’s resolution. )

That’s why this week, we’d like to give a shout-out to…

Disclaimer: You should all know about this awesome brand. If you have not had the opportunity to slip you limbs into the loving leg holes of this denim brand then we must assist in moving you out from under your (too) cramped rock.

Just kidding…

Flying Monkey became a member of the Plastic by GLY (God Loves You) brand family in 2004. Based in Los Angles, CA, Flying Monkey is known for it’s unique, individual, and young-contemporary styles.  This denim brand is proudly made locally, that’s right… Made in America (woot, woot).

Flying Monkey takes pride in their denim and has passion for releasing products that are of the highest quality. This premium (American made) denim brand is designed to accentuate the beauty of one’s body and express the stylish identity of it’s wearers individuality.

That being said, we are HUGE fans of all the vibrant colors, the form flattering styles, and the oh-so comfy fit of Flying Monkey denim.

BB Dakota: Koa Coat

I’m excited to add the Koa Coat to our online arsenal of fabulous fall fashions online! This southwestern inspired coat from the always fashionable, BB Dakota brand is super cute.

I am really digging the color contrast, allover Santa Fe print, large front flap patch pockets and the fur-trimmed hood of the Koa coat.

Haha… I enjoy this BB Dakota coat so much so that I actually wore it while doing its write up to invoke the Koa spirit! Sorry, no pictures. I actually only lasted in it for about 5 minutes, it’s still 90+ degrees outside, but that was long enough.

My Point: The Koa coat is this season’s BB Dakota answer to last years VERY POPULAR Bostwick coat.

Note: Doesn’t Ashley Tisdale look adorable bundled up in her Bostwick coat from BB Dakota!? I can barely recognize her under all that warm fur! What sunglasses? Where did she go?

The stars have aligned and say that you need to add the Koa coat to your wardrobe ASAP! Your thermometers might still be reading in the 70’s but I PROMISE that cold weather is on its way and you will want to be fashionably ready!

Totally In-Vested

I’m pretty excited to add this quilted vest from Element to our arsenal of back to school apparel!! I first saw it when Element came to visit the Glik’s home office a few months ago and have patiently waited ever since for it to arrive.  The Alex reversible quilted vest jacket from Element is featured in the current issue of Seventeen Magazine styled out in a few different back to school outfit ideas.

Well guess what…

It’s hereee!

I like how Element styled the Alex vest jacket for their Fall 2012 imagery! They’ve paired it with some tall socks and a flannel casually tied at the model’s waist. She looks so casual, yet oh-so hot!  I’m imagining how I would wear this quilted vest as I write this…

What do you think of the Alex vest jacket from Element? How would you style it out in an outfit? Let me  know…

I’m with the Band-eau

FINALLY, we have an excuse to let our bras show! What makes this possible?  Bandeaus, and they are ESSENTIAL to any fashionista’s wardrobe. They’re like a special gift from the fashion gods given to women all over in a variety of colors, fabrics, and patterns. Whether you prefer lace, crochet, sequins, and florals, animal print, or tribal print, there is a bandeau for you!

Leopard Print Bandeau

Lace Bandeau

The bandeau’s story is special. This unique article of clothing has come a long way from it’s early years of being hidden beneath layers of clothing as underwear and then granted the opportunity to prove it’s fashionable skills in the swimwear community. Now, the bandeau has broken free of its trendy chains and made its way into the mainstream!

Pair a bandeau with anything, and I’m sure you will not be let down. If worn the right way, this stylish strip of fabric can be a chic fashion choice to show a little skin while still maintaining a classy appearance!

I consider myself a “mad-style scientist” and like to experiment with what I wear. I know that I am not alone in admitting that I have splurged on a few tops and dresses where a conventional bra is just out of the question while wearing the prized garment. Whether it’s the large armholes, the design of the back and straps, or the fit of the garment, these give my good ‘ole standard bra a run for its money.

My new go-to is a bandeau, and it has been saving my fashion forward soul for some time now! With the comeback of high-waisted bottoms, wearing a chic bandeau and letting only a small glimpse of skin show is becoming popular.

I realize that not every fashionista is comfortable with her silhouette in the same way, and this trend may not be for everyone. Even if you’re not sold on the “glance of skin” look, most stylish souls can find a way to best wear the bandeau within their own comfort zone.

Padded Bandeau

Usually under $10, bandeaus are a chic investment. Most bandeaus are lined, and some will come with cup pads that can be removed. PLUS don’t fret if you have “more to spare” in that department than others; bandeaus are made of comfortable, supportive and durable materials like spandex and elastic.

Bandeaus have come a long way since their early days, and I foresee that bandeaus will be here to stay. They are super fun to wear and can majorly upgrade any outfit!  Visit us online at for all of your bandeau needs, or stop by any of our Glik’s store locations to test out any of your stylish ideas.

Weekends Out

Honestly, this past weekend was the first weekend in a long time that I have felt okay with leaving my jacket hung up in my closet at home. To say the least, I literally skipped down my stairs and into the street like a kid. Childish, I know.

I am completely okay with admitting my excitement over summer, sun, swimming, my developing tan, being outside, and most importantly, weekend road trips!  We’re just two weeks shy of Memorial Day weekend people! This holiday is where families and groups of friends travel to beaches, lake houses and campgrounds for barbecues, boating, daylong golf outings, and fairs.

So with the return of the sun, its warmth and the much-welcomed showing of skin, it’s time to give your wardrobes an upgrade!

Beach Action.

The first thing I think of when it comes to Memorial Day weekend is swimming. So no matter where you go, be sure to have your cutest bikini packed with a few necessities. I’ve chosen this super cute crochet fringe flyaway sweater from Oracle Fox for Billabong, the Trinity destructed cutoff shorts from Silver Jeans Co, and partnered them with a chic fedora, some braided jute sandals, and finished the look with a colorful tribal print beach bag to store your beach essentials.

Afternoon Out.

Being that I am a HUGE fan of all things fringe right now AND colored denim, I thought it would be cute to partner this boho chic Belize fringe top from Jack by BB Dakota with a bright pair of orange Flying Monkey jeggings. If you’re out on an afternoon shopping spree with the girls or a grill out with the fam, an easy way to accessorize is with a pair of retro wayfarer sunglasses, some Pura Vida bracelets. To add some sass try tying up your hair with a cute printed scarf.

Down on the Boardwalk.

So you may have had a long day out in the sun and a shower is out of the question until your new tan has had a chance to set in for a few more hours. That’s okay. Take it from the beach to the street just by slipping into the BB Dakota Dora dress and let its soft striped jersey knit set your sun exposed skin free. Keep it stylishly simple with a pair of platform wedges and sunglasses, and set your style savvy apart with a neon crossbody bag.

Remember that it’s the weekend and bringing your WHOLE wardrobe isn’t necessary. Resort town = SHOPPING heaven, and you need room in your suitcase for all of your new fashion finds. Look for any of these fab items online at or visit a Glik’s store location nearest to you!
