1. Sweaters

The number one staple piece for fall are sweaters. And, we’re not talking about just the original sweaters, we’re talking about statement sweaters. Our favorite sweaters feature a lace up front, a twist back or a choker neckline giving you a fun and flirty look for fall. Perfect for date night, layer one of these sweaters over a bralette and pair it with your favorite booties for an effortless look that both you and him will love!

1. The North Face

The North Face is a must have for fall, especially for men. Dress up your look by layering a pullover or vest over a plaid shirt. For a more casual look, try a The North Face hoodie or baseball tee and hat. The North Face makes dressing for fall so simple while still looking great!

2. Pullover Hoodies

If you’re digging the casual lifestyle, then a pullover hoodie will be your go-to item this fall. One of our favorite hoodies for men is the Keller Pullover by Quiksilver. Available in medieval blue heather and light grey heather, this hoodie will be your bonfire attire for fall.

3. Sweaters and Plaid Shirts

A quarter zip sweater and a plaid shirt either worn alone or together are both a must have for fall. Every girl loves a guy in plaid, so you might as well buy every plaid shirt you see. Kidding, but really, if you’re looking for the perfect outfit for date night, then grab yourself a plaid shirt and/or a quarter zip sweater.

Fringe | Looking Ahead to Fall 2015

Fringe has been an inescapable trend since the early 1920’s and looking ahead to fall 2015, fringe is coming full force. For the upcoming season, it has undoubtedly evolved into a modern look that can be found on shoes, apparel, accessories, and more. Yes, it can feel a bit intimidating to try and rock a trend with so much personality, but I’ve got you covered with a few essential pieces from Glik’s.

If you’re feeling hesitant, the key to getting comfortable with this trend is to invest in garments that feel fun, yet sophisticated like our Love Stitch Carys Fringed Shawl Sweater. Not only is it a great piece for layering, but it allows you to try the trend without feeling too costumey.

Fringe Skirt Fringe Skirt

If you’re feeling a bit more bold, a fringe skirt is something to embrace. What I love about these skirts from Glik’s is the versatility that they offer. You can let your skirt do the talking and pair it with an understated button up or you can take your look to another level by wearing a fringe skirt with a statement sweater.

If you’re looking to try this trend in a smaller dose, fringe footwear is a way to easily clinch your fall outfit game. I suggest our Soda Shoes Jervis Fringe Closed Toe Booties because not only are they comfortable, but they can also add a touch of personality to a simple outfit.

Fringe purse

Another definite keeper is this Mini Fringe Backpack Purse. Both functional and trendy, I love this piece because it is effortlessly cool and incredibly fun.

Now, my friends, I hope you take your newfound knowledge and get excited about incorporating the classic fringe trend into your fall wardrobe. Don’t forget, as always, you can shop these pieces and more on our website.

Making Your Maxi Work for Fall

This week’s blog features maxi skirts and dresses. You first saw them this spring and summer made from light, slightly sheer chiffon layers, and they were paired with strappy bohemian sandals and wedges with statement sunglasses. Now that the weather is cooling off and the official first day of fall has already come to pass, we’re seeing maxis of all types – skirts and dresses – but they’re made of heavier fabrics and bold fall inspired prints.

Maxis are at the top our list for being the most versatile pieces to have in your wardrobe year round. Not only are they one of the most comfortable, flattering, and forgiving items of clothing for a woman to wear– they’re able to transition into any season with absolute ease. At first, you would think that it would be hard to style a maxi skirt for cooler weather – the key is to balance your outfit by layering items with complimenting silhouettes.

Here are a few of my favorite ways to style maxi skirts and dresses for fall.

Fall is my favorite time of the year to wear a classic moto inspired, faux leather jacket like this one from Jack by BB Dakota. It’s a solid and super versatile edition to any wardrobe and the cool beige body/black accenting sleeves gives this vegan-friendly, faux leather jacket standout appeal. I’ve paired this Jack by BB Dakota jacket with a black maxi skirt, a basic stripe long sleeve top, and a color-pop merlot wine red colored infinity scarf. You cannot see the boots because of the black maxi skirt’s length, but you can layer tights and over the knee socks underneath for added warmth.

Sweaters. They’re just as versatile as a maxi and can be worn as an extra layer with virtually anything. We know, we know – summer is hanging on for dear life this year (although, can we just admit that the weather has been pretty ah-mazing lately?).  Even though the weather hasn’t read the “it’s fall!” memo yet, we’re pretty sure that it’s still safe for you to layer up with an awesome, open front, oversized knit sweater, like the Verne Sweater from Jack by BB Dakota. Actually, sweaters of all kinds can be building blocks to your chic, yet functional maxi-inspired look.

So in the interest of getting into that fall spirit, we’re starting to transition out of our strappy summer sandals in favor of more closed toe, just below the knee boot greatness; we’re also a big fan of the ankle boot.  Try pairing a pair of under the knee boots like the Reef Bella Costas High Desert Suede Riding Boot with a side slit maxi skirt and knit sweater combo for a comfy, boho-inspired outfit.  We how the love the bold, aztec print of this red maxi skirt stands out against the solid oatmeal color of the Collette Sweater from BB Dakota.

So for those in-between times – when it is warm during the day chilly at night, and ridiculously cold in your office, classroom, etc. (seriously, what’s up with the A.C?) – we turn to layers, layers, and layers of fall’s essential items to fashionably pair with your favorite maxi.  Visit us online at gliks.com to view our huge selection of maxi skirts and dress, or visit any one of our 60 store locations across the Midwest.
