How are you celebrating New Year’s Eve this year? Whether you are going out with your best friends or staying at home with your loved ones, it’s always fun to dress up! Although glitter is a girl’s best friend, we are straying away from the sparkly look this year. We are ringing in the New Year with some of 2016’s favorite trends, such as the cold shoulder, criss-cross necklines, peep toed booties and choker necklaces.
NEW YEAR’S Eve OUTFIT #1:
Step into 2017 with the latest fashions. We took our Elan Cold Shoulder Striped Dress and paired it with Jessica Simpson Peep Toe Booties for an effortless look that everyone will love! Complete your outfit with a Kendra Scott necklace.
Now that your outfit is covered, let’s talk about hair and make-up! No matter what length of hair you have, beach waves are always a good idea. Grab your curling wand and add some loose curls to that beautiful hair of yours. Top your look off with a smoky-eye and some red lipstick.
NEW YEAR’S Eve OUTFIT #2:
Perfect for a night out with the girls, this BB Dakota fur vest will leave you looking remarkable this New Year’s Eve. We layered this beautiful vest over a Wishlist Criss-Cross Sweater and a pair of black Flying Monkey Jeans. Keep the choker trend going by adding a Pink Pewter Choker necklace to your outfit.
Keeping the hair and make-up simple will do the trick for this look. A low pony and your favorite studs is all you will need. Adding shimmery eye shadow and nude lipstick will give this natural look a little sass!
NEW YEAR’S Eve OUTFIT #3:
Looking for the perfect New Year’s Eve dress? We have you covered. This Lime N Chili Lace Up Dress will be the prefect little black dress for the perfect evening! We’ve paired this Lace Up Dress with Jessica Simpson booties and a Pink Pewter Choker Necklace, that can also play the role of a head band. This look will have everyone’s heads turning!
Now that your outfit is on point, let’s make your hair and make-up just as pretty! A half up top knot messy bun with a few curls will do the trick to complete this look. Adding a smoky eye and a soft pink lipstick will leave you looking flawless all night!
There is something about fall and the weather changing that just makes us want to dress for the season. Maybe it’s the leaves on the ground or the chili mornings that makes us wake up and sip on our hot coffee. Either way, we will most likely be wearing a sweater!
This year it is all about the chunky, oversized sweaters. Stay trendy this season by trying different necklines with your sweaters. Some of our favorite necklines this year include cowl, turtleneck, keyhole, and crisscross. Another trend that is hot this season is the cold shoulder and off the shoulder look. Although it’s not ideal for the colder weather, it is an adorable look that you just can’t pass up!
The Chunky Sweater
The bigger the better! We all have our favorite sweaters and a chunky sweater is mine! Something about the oversized fit that just makes wearing chunky cable knit sweaters that much more comfortable. These oversized sweaters are perfect for pairing with your favorite skinny jeans. Take comfy to an extreme and wear it with leggings this season! Stay trendy and try a little half tuck in the front of your skinny jeans for a chic look that shows off the waist definition.
The Cowl Neck Sweater
Sometimes the big chunky sweaters aren’t for everyone! You can always try a lightweight sweater that features different necklines. One of my favorite necklines is the cowl neck. The cowl neck is loose and breathable which is the perfect mix of laid-back and trendy.
The Cold Shoulder Sweater
Don’t let the cold stop you from being trendy this season! Cold shoulder tops are a hot item this year and they have now made it in a sweater. My favorite cold shoulder sweater this year is from Elan. It features a lightweight knit material that is flowy making the perfect fit for anyone! Cold shoulder sweaters are perfect for the transition from season to season. Add one to your closet TODAY!
The past few seasons the fringe trend has been a huge hit! Adding a twist to the fringe world, they have added fringe denim, which is known as released hem, raw hem, or even frayed jeans. The frayed hem doesn’t stop at the jeans. We are seeing frayed shorts, skirts and tops too. The released hem trend isn’t just made on a skinny jean either, but also on a flared denim. One of our favorite brands, Flying Monkey, came out with a cropped skinny jean that features a raw hem and are a must have staple piece for this season!
Rules of the Frayed Jeans:
The frayed hem should hit right at or above the ankle.
Only wear one or two raw hem peices at a time, too much fraying could be an overkill.
We paired our released hem Flying Monkey Jeans with an Elan Fringe Sweater giving this outfit the double fray look. Keeping up with all of the trends this season, we layered our sweater over a Criss-Cross Neck Tee. And topping off our look, we paired our raw hem jeans with our Volatile Haisley Western Ankle Bootie to show off that frayed hem.
The ’90s trends just keep coming back! We are loving this denim on denim look and we have noticed that some of our favorite celebrities are loving this look as well. From Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake rocking this look in the ’90s to Gigi Hadid wearing her denim on denim now, it is still a trendy look that everyone loves.
How Gigi Hadid Styles Denim on Denim
Gigi Hadid captured this amazing look by mixing two different washes of denim. Get this look at Glik’s with our Elan Clothing Denim Shirt and a pair of KanCan Dark Denim Jeans. Wear your favorite white Converse with this denim on denim outfit. To top this outfit off, add a pair of Ray-Ban’s and a set of Alex and Ani bangles. Break up the blue washes by doing a simple front tuck and adding a belt.
There are so many different ways to style denim on denim. Glik’s has achieved this chic look with a light wash Elan Clothing Button-Down Chambray Shirt and a pair of very dark washed Flying Money Jeans. You won’t go wrong adding our Shaky Heel from My Delicious Shoes to this double denim outfit. Don’t forget the accessories! We styled this denim outfit with an Analisa Rhinestone Headband from Pink Pewter and a set of Alex and Ani bangles.
Rompers are a must have for spring and they are quickly becoming my favorite go to outfit for a night out or if I’m just meeting a friend for lunch and shopping. Their versatility makes them easy to dress up or down, depending on what you are doing or where you are going.
Here are 3 of my favorite styles:
Angie Clothing Paisley Romper
This is the perfect style to wear out to dinner or to take with you on a tropical getaway. It looks great styled with a simple necklace and fringe wedge sandals. I love the fact that this black romper has a romantic flowy fit. In my opinion, the loose fit makes gives this cute romper a universal figure flattering look. I think this would make a great Valentine’s Day outfit <3
If I was going to Coachella, this is the romper I would wear. Hands down. Festival season is coming and rompers are the perfect outfit to wear while people watching and listening to great music. The option are limitless with this style, but I like it best paired with black lace up ballet flats and a long necklace.
Ellison Denim Romper
This denim romper is definitely the most casual of the three, but still one of my favorites. It would be perfect to wear while running errands and grabbing a coffee with a friend. You can definitely dress this romper up, but I love how it looks styled with white Converse and a boho headband for an every day look.
Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and if you’re lucky, your significant other has already made plans for the two of you to celebrate this romantic holiday. Now that your plans are set, I bet you’re wondering what to wear. Never fear, I’ve got three Valentine’s Day outfits that will impress far beyond February 14th.
Everly Clothing Mock Neck Dress
This sleeveless shift dress from Everly is guaranteed to help you steal his heart. I love this dress because it is ultra feminine and easy to accessorize. Did I mention this dress is fully lined? For a complete look, pair this Everly dress with gold accessories, a killer pair of heels, and a glossy lip. Try the Marc Jacobs Enamored Hi-Shine Gloss Lip Lacquer Lipgloss in Moonglow. It’s the perfect soft pink nude color.
Elan Clothing Floral Print Dress with Bell Sleeves
Hands down, this Elan Clothing dress is my favorite! The floral pattern and color combination of this dress are romantic without looking overly festive. The sleeves are unlined, but the body of the dress is fully lined so you won’t need to fuss with a slip. With a flattering A-line silhouette, this Elan dress is a solid option for every body type. Pair this floral dress with a great pair of wedges, a statement necklace and mauve lip. Try the Tarteist Lip Paint by Tarte in Fomo.
Pink so not your color? Try this Valentine’s Day outfit!
Elan Clothing Black Dress with Crochet Detail Sleeves
If you’re so not into wearing red or pink clothes this Valentine’s Day, you can always opt for my go-to color: black. This dress, also by Elan Clothing, is a great option to wear out with your S.O. without feeling like a walking advertisement for the holiday. It has a slight high-low hemline and long bell sleeves with crochet detail. This dress is unlined so dress accordingly underneath 😉 Style this number with gold accessories and a wedge sandal. Add a pop of color on your lips with Studded Kiss Lipstick by Kat Von D in Lullaby.
Meet Elan Savir, founder and designer for the high quality womenswear brand, Elan clothing. With flattering silhouettes and a touch of international flair, the brand continues to blow out of Glik’s stores and online. I recently had the pleasure of speaking with Elan about everything from his humble beginning to how the brand has evolved and where the future will take the unstoppable design team.
Can you tell our readers how your brand began?
I began designing and manufacturing clothing when I was 20. I had worked a number of retail jobs and although I had no prior experience designing, I knew that I had an eye for fashion. At age 21, I truly embarked on my quest to become a designer and start my own clothing company. After borrowing money from my parents, I made 150 dresses, loaded them up in my Trans Am, and being trying to sell my apparel door to door. I immersed myself in the industry and began networking with more established wholesalers in the area. In the beginning, the focus was on resort wear for men, women, and children. Today, the brand has grown and solely focuses on womenswear. With the growth of the brand, the design process has evolved into a group effort. Working together with a team has allowed Elan clothing to generate fresh ideas regarding designs and keeping up with current trends.
You mentioned being a self taught designer, how did you learn tricks of the trade?
I learned as I went. I learned it was okay to make mistakes, but not to make the same ones twice. I realized that sometimes you have to fake it until you make it and that others in the industry will start acknowledging you once you actually begin to get your work out there.
How do you stay on top of current and upcoming trends?
We look at magazines and draw inspiration from certain companies that inspire us. A lot of our designs are also influenced by our travels to Europe where we visit high-end stores. Elan clothing is not aspiring to be a trendsetter in the industry, but to design clothing that women will be attracted to for every day wear. We want to make casual, comfortable, and chic clothing that women can wear to run their every day errands, but that they can also wear to a nice dinner. I try to let go of any personal biases when it comes to trends and ask for group opinions to keep everything fresh.
What is the most rewarding part about being a designer?
The most rewarding part is seeing people wear your clothing. It feels great to see women wearing our clothing and loving it. Having that support from your consumers and getting their feedback is always important. I also love to see how stores merchandise our product.
What is the most challenging?
I have found that the most challenging part of being a designer is to find ways to keep outdoing yourself from season to season. As a designer, you have to constantly find ways to make your products better than they have been before.
If you’re in a creative rut, what is the best way to drag yourself out?
Sometimes it is good not to try and force yourself to come up with ideas. You have to change your environment to change your state of mind. I often times will leave my office when I feel stuck and I’ve found that changing your environment will do a lot for your creative mindset.
How would you describe your style aesthetic?
My style aesthetic is casual but dressy. I like to describe it as “casual chic.” I like to create looks that are not form fitting, but more loose and flowy. My designs are feminine and have a bohemian vibe.
Can you please describe your design process from mood boards to choosing fabrics to production?
We start by going to fabric suppliers and seeing what is new. Sometimes we will buy samples of what we like and begin to create mood boards based from that. If we find a fabric that we like, sometimes we will produce many items from the same fabric.
If you could choose any celebrity to be a spokesperson for your brand, who would it be and why?
Nichole Richie. She is stylish and has the image of a woman that represents our ideal customer.
Where do you see Elan Clothing in 5/10 years?
In 5 or 10 years, we would like to become a more focused brand that has a larger presence in major department stores. We are working on building brand recognition and are striving to improve our social media presence for Elan clothing.
Making in the fashion industry is no easy feat. What is the best advice you could give to an aspiring designer?
My best advice is to put yourself in the proximity of those who are doing what you want to do. Get a job as an intern and surround yourself with people who have valuable experience. Money doesn’t matter as much as the experience that you will gain. Be the best version of yourself and grow as a person. Be part of the world. Don’t sit around and wait for something to happen. It is important to work and find your value. Sometimes, you have to start small and work to grow your company.
Is there anything else that you’d like to share?
It is not impossible to succeed with building your own business! You have to be passionate and believe in yourself first. If you are interested in fashion, there are a number of jobs in the industry that you could do if you position yourself in the right place and work hard.
