How to Wear Denim on Denim

how to wear

The fall season is right around the corner and we want to challenge you to try and step out of your fashion comfort zone a little this season! One way to try something new is putting some of your denim pieces together for a bold denim on denim look. Denim on denim, also known as the Canadian Tuxedo, was once seen by a lot of people as a fashion NO, but we see it as a fashion YES, YOU SHOULD BE WEARING DENIM ON DENIM and here is how…

4

keep darker denim on bottom

Try and keep your darker denim on bottom. Also keeping the denim more well fitted for you body type will be the most flattering way to rock the double denim trend!

DENIM ON DENIM (1)

add some texture

To make sure to keep the denim on denim trend interesting try adding different textured pieces! A great way to get in your textures are to add a snake skin shoe like these or a sherpa lined jean jacket!

2

try a statement shoe & tee

The denim doesn’t have to have all the spotlight! Put on your favorite tee and a bold shoe to try more of a rocker look. Similar washed denim can be a little tricky but with the right shoes and a dark band tee makes this whole outfit look well put together!

3

Add colorful pieces

Denim on denim is basically the same as wearing two neutral pieces together. Be sure to add all your favorite statement pieces to keep you from looking too monochromatic.  A well fitting jean skirt with a lighter washed chambray shirt is the perfect way to show off those bright shoes and accessories!

5 (2)

Throw on more neutrals

Plain and simple, fashion shouldn’t be difficult. Throw on a neutral shoe with a cute bralette and don’t over think it! You can have a trend-setter look with minimal effort when you throw on your double denim with other neutral pieces!

Glik’s Style

Hello, Everyone!!! Hope you’re all having a Happy Friday! It’s been such a busy week filled with work, holiday prepping, and (most importantly) new activities here at Glik’s HQ, which I am super excited to share with you all!

So, we’re all fans of Instagram right? That app has become the heart and sole of my smart phone. I buy editing apps to use with it, get called out on a daily basis for taking too many photos of my food, and look completely awkward trolling around the office and pretty much the general public with my phone taking “interesting” angle shots. It’s an addiction, I will fully admit to needing a possible 5 Step Plan (as if).
Instagram is fun, addicting, and a great way to connect with so many other people, brands, businesses, and non-profits that share the same interests as you. Everyday I check the @GlikClick account and come across some great style photos that we have been tagged in. It’s so cool to see everyone’s individual style and how they translate that to the world around them.

Of course, this gave me an idea. Why not share these great photos with everyone! Thus, Glik’s Style File has been born. Once or twice a month I will be posting a few amazing photos of you all dressed in Glik’s fashions. So here goes…

Can I Get a High 5 for Fall?

I know that I may regret saying this once it gets too cold, but I can’t help my fond feelings for fall. Retail sales floors all over are starting to look like the leaves on a tree that is preparing for cooler weather. Imagine it… fall product is popping up like individual leaves turning from green to vibrant hues of oranges, reds, browns, and golden yellows.  Ahh… (I’m imagining at this very moment).

Maybe it’s the fact that I have been in a super denim state of mind lately or that I am really feeling all of the hot new fall trends, but I decided to pick a few of my favorite fashions from brands that I currently adore for a 5 for Fall pick list!

Free People Cypress Jacket:

I pretty much am obsessed with Free People clothing and this jacket takes the cake! Loving the vintage wash, destructed denim vest/ Fair Isle sweater sleeves mix…very versatile for fall!

Denim Shirt:

Every wardrobe needs a denim shirt in it for this fall! I have two in my closet currently, a light AND medium wash. Denim shirts are super versatile and can be layered with anything! I will often wear mine belted with a dress or left open with an A-line maxi skirt. I have even tried the “Canadian Tuxedo” look by pairing a medium to dark wash pair of jeans with my lighter wash denim shirt! Layer, layer, layer!

BB Dakota Krysta Aztec Woven Top:

This tie-neck top from BB Dakota is a perfect addition to any closet. This southwest inspired woven top can be worn tucked in or flowing loosely over your comfiest pair of destructed cut off denim shorts. The Krysta top can be matched effortlessly with other items to create a number of boho chic outfits fit to follow you into the fall.

Silver Jeans Co. Suki Jegging:

The Suki just might be my favorite fit from Silver Jeans Co. This mid-rise, relaxed hip & thigh fit is one of many custom cut denim styles made to flatter only your best features!

Roxy Crosby Boot:

I have found a new love for fall…boots! That’s right, boots that look like you could go hiking in the woods whilst you’re simply navigating the streets or campus sidewalks. Be daring and wear your lace up boots with tights and a pattern print dress. Finish off the outfit with a belted flannel or denim button down top and chunky knit, or ho-made crochet scarf!

I understand that it is still hot out BUT school will begin again shortly and fall will follow soon after! Be sure to get your wardrobes ready!

Whether worn buttoned up or left open and layered with a tee or tank, a denim shirt looks boho chic when paired with a maxi skirt! Let your inner stylist loose and have fun playing with prints and solids for a boho chic look everyone will love! Helpful Hint: If you have yet to add a maxi skirt to your fall wardrobe but have a ton of maxi dresses left in your wardrobe from summer, just don the dress the same way you would the skirt. Tie your denim top at your waist or leave it open and wear some fab accessories!

Denim+ White:

Lucky for us, wearing white bottoms past Labor Day will be acceptable this fall. Pair a denim or chambray top with a classic pair of white skinny bottoms for a classic chic outfit that can be dressed up with heels or kept casual with a cuffed bottom and sneakers.
