Shoe of the Week

Shoe of the Week

Time to pack away those sandals and flip flops.
Boot season is here!

At the beginning of fall, I always have the hardest time trying to find the perfect pair of shoes to wear. It’s too chilly to wear sandals but not cold enough to bring out the big tall boots! Last year, I fell in love with booties and I can not wait to buy more!

Booties are seriously the perfect shoes for the transition from summer to fall. Turn your favorite summer dress into a fall dress by adding a cardigan or denim jacket and a pair of booties. My go to outfit for this time of year is a lightweight sweater, my favorite pair of jeans and booties.

This fall we are running weekly sales on some of our booties. This week the Charles Albert Rainy Booties in Taupe and Black were the Shoe of the Week. They are regularly $29.90 but are only $19.90 this week! Shoe of the Week

The Perfect New Year’s Eve Outfit

2017

How are you celebrating New Year’s Eve this year? Whether you are going out with your best friends or staying at home with your loved ones, it’s always fun to dress up! Although glitter is a girl’s best friend, we are straying away from the sparkly look this year. We are ringing in the New Year with some of 2016’s favorite trends, such as the cold shoulder, criss-cross necklines, peep toed booties and choker necklaces.

New Year's Eve Outfit 1

NEW YEAR’S Eve OUTFIT #1:

Step into 2017 with the latest fashions. We took our Elan Cold Shoulder Striped Dress and paired it with Jessica Simpson Peep Toe Booties for an effortless look that everyone will love! Complete your outfit with a Kendra Scott necklace.

Now that your outfit is covered, let’s talk about hair and make-up! No matter what length of hair you have, beach waves are always a good idea. Grab your curling wand and add some loose curls to that beautiful hair of yours. Top your look off with a smoky-eye and some red lipstick.

New Year's Eve Outfit 2

NEW YEAR’S Eve OUTFIT #2:

Perfect for a night out with the girls, this BB Dakota fur vest will leave you looking remarkable this New Year’s Eve. We layered this beautiful vest over a Wishlist Criss-Cross Sweater and a pair of black Flying Monkey Jeans. Keep the choker trend going by adding a Pink Pewter Choker necklace to your outfit.

Keeping the hair and make-up simple will do the trick for this look. A low pony and your favorite studs is all you will need. Adding shimmery eye shadow and nude lipstick will give this natural look a little sass!

New Year's Eve Outfit 3

NEW YEAR’S Eve OUTFIT #3:

Looking for the perfect New Year’s Eve dress? We have you covered. This Lime N Chili Lace Up Dress will be the prefect little black dress for the perfect evening! We’ve paired this Lace Up Dress with Jessica Simpson booties and a Pink Pewter Choker Necklace, that can also play the role of a head band. This look will have everyone’s heads turning!

Now that your outfit is on point, let’s make your hair and make-up just as pretty! A half up top knot messy bun with a few curls will do the trick to complete this look. Adding a smoky eye and a soft pink lipstick will leave you looking flawless all night!

Trend Alert: Frayed Jeans

Western Bootie
Fray is the New Fringe

The past few seasons the fringe trend has been a huge hit! Adding a twist to the fringe world, they have added fringe denim, which is known as released hem, raw hem, or even frayed jeans.  The frayed hem doesn’t stop at the jeans. We are seeing frayed shorts, skirts and tops too. The released hem trend isn’t just made on a skinny jean either, but also on a flared denim. One of our favorite brands, Flying Monkey, came out with a cropped skinny jean that features a raw hem and are a must have staple piece for this season!

Rules of the Frayed Jeans:

  1. The frayed hem should hit right at or above the ankle.
  2. Wear your raw hem jeans with pointy pumps, strappy sandals, ballet flats, casual sneakers, or ankle boots.
  3. Only wear one or two raw hem peices at a time, too much fraying could be an overkill.

Frayed Jeans

We paired our released hem Flying Monkey Jeans with an Elan Fringe Sweater giving this outfit the double fray look. Keeping up with all of the trends this season, we layered our sweater over a Criss-Cross Neck Tee. And topping off our look, we paired our raw hem jeans with our Volatile Haisley Western Ankle Bootie to show off that frayed hem.

How to Style Your Piko Dresses for Fall

As the weather changes so will your wardrobe. It’s time to pack up the tank tops and shorts, and pull out the sweaters and boots. One thing I don’t want to pack up though are my dresses! I love dresses and I am always trying to find ways to style them for the fall. I’ve taken our favorite Piko Swing Dress and styled it three different ways for fall.

Layer it with a blanket scarf

If you don’t have a Piko dress in your closet, I recommend changing that immediately. Piko dresses are so simple and go perfectly with just about anything. When it comes to layering, Piko dresses will be your go to item. Throw a jacket or vest over your dress for a comfortable but yet flattering look. I’ve layered my striped Piko dress with a plaid blanket scarf. Don’t be afraid to mix your prints!

Tie it together with a plaid shirt

Plaid is the must have staple piece for fall. You can never have too many plaid button down shirts!  There are many different ways to wear a plaid shirt, you can layer it under a vest, wear it open with a V-neck tee or tie it around your waist with a dress. I took a solid color Piko Dress and tied a plaid shirt around my waist to add a pop of color to my outfit. Some would call this outfit the tomboy look, but I’ve paired it with peep toed booties for a sassier look. Trade out those booties for a pair of Converse to rock the Tomboy look!

Accessories can really make an outfit pop! I’ve taken one of my Piko Tops, this time Army Green, and added some of my favorite accessories to compete the perfect outfit for a Saturday night! Top this Piko Dress off with a hat, a long necklace, and booties for a simple look that everyone will love.Army Green Piko Dress

5 Key Pieces to Transition Your Wardrobe from Summer to Fall

Hello AutumnThe transition from summer to fall apparel here at Glik’s is in full swing. The clothes I’ve seen cross my desk are so cute and I can barely contain my excitement! I just want to buy all over it!

And a number of pieces stood out as an absolutely key item that will not only be great this fall season, but will also help you transition your wardrobe from summer to fall. Don’t miss these 5 must-have items:

Fringe Sweaters

This Billabong sweater is going to be everyone’s favorite this fall. A lot of girls are already so excited to wear it that they are pairing it with their denim shorts. Fringe was hot this summer and is going to continue to be hot this fall.

Fringe Cardigan

Plaid Shirts

Plaid shirts are always a must-have! They make a simple outfit so much fun. There are three different ways I’ve seen the plaid worn. Buttoned up, kept open or tied around the waist. Tying your plaid around your waist adds character to your outfit. I’ve seen it tied around the waist with a dress, denim shorts or capris. No matter how you wear it, you will always look cute in plaid.

Plaid is rad

Scarves

Scarves are simple but cute when transitioning from summer to fall. The blanket scarf pairs nicely with our Piko tops. These blanket scarves come in a variety of colors making it easy to coordinate with your outfit. Grab your blanket scarf today before they are gone!

Fedoras and Wide Brim Hats

Hats are great for transitioning from summer to fall. Make a statement by adding a wide brim hat to your outfit. The chain detailing on this hat is the perfect finishing touch you need to complete your festive outfit.

Booties

Every girl needs a pair of booties! Booties look great with bare legs making them perfect for this time of the year. Pair these booties with your favorite dress and a cardigan to enhance your summer-to-fall outfit. If dresses aren’t your style then try wearing your booties with cuffed skinny jeans. You won’t go wrong adding these booties to your boot collection!

Any (or all) of these essential wardrobe pieces will make the transition from summer to fall that much smoother. And as a bonus, these items can be worn both now (of course!) and later (as warm fall layers!)

If you don’t have a pair of booties yet you are missing out! These have a sherpa-lined cuff that can be worn up or down, and also have an amazingly comfortable chunky heel.

5. Who said Fridays had to be casual? Slip into the “Agatha” Boot and you’ll be FAR FAR away from Casual Friday, and much closer to the weekend! Anything animal print is super hot right now, so why not let your inner party animal out with these zebra-print cuffed boots!? Want to keep it simple.. fold the cuff up and the zebra-print pattern is replaced with silver studs!

Trend Alert: Leopard Print!

The new HOT trend this year is leopard print.  It lets you stand out from the crowd and show off your wild side.  Celebs sporting this trend and showing their spots everywhere.

There are many different ways to wear leopard prints.  The one thing to remember that when it comes to animal prints, or any bold prints for that matter, less is more.  For example, leopard print makes the perfect accessory in a pair of pumps, a handbag, or a scarf, but you can have too much of a good thing.  Stick with only one leopard print accessory.

Leopard print can also be hot in a dress, pants, or a top, just make sure to pair it with simple yet fab accessories, such as black combat boots or pumps, or a simple top.

Check out how these celebs style their leopard print.

Miley Cyrus, Christina Aguilera, Vanessa Hudgens and Rihanna show their spots.

New Shoes = LOVE!

OMG SHOES!

Look what Tricia and I found!!  We ventured deep into the warehouse to rip open boxes like a pair of over-excited toddlers on their birthdays.  Oh, what a girl will do for cute shoes.

And my oh my are these HOT!  Just in time for heading back to school, these boots are both new from Soda.  The grey boot is a layered multi chain shootie bootie and the black is a double buttoned cuffed shootie bootie with a gathered upper.

For a great look, pair either of these with skinny jeans or leggings and an off the shoulder top.  I’m already visualizing multiple outfits I can put together with the black boots.  I simply cannot resist them.

Want a pair?  They will be in our Granite City, Edwardsville, Cahokia, and Danville locations in Illinois and our Farmington and St. Robert locations in Missouri.

You might want to hurry before Tricia and I buy them all up though.

Me! I LOVE the black pair.
Tricia, the shoe buyer. You can thank her for all of our awesome shoes!
