Glik’s Edwardsville, Illinois Expansion

edwardsville gliks

Wednesday, March 9th, will mark the grand reopening of the Edwardsville, Illinois Glik’s, located at 124 S. Buchanan St. in Park Plaza. The store has been recently expanded to more than double the original floor space. With the expansion, the Edwardsville location has been able to increase their merchandise selection and allow more room for best selling brands.

The Edwardsville and Glen Carbon communities have been more than kind to Glik’s in the 50+ years it has been a home to one of the company’s most successful stores. The area has continued to thrive and grow, as proven by the recently awarded ranking of #1 Best City in Illinois for Young Families by NerdWallet, a website focused on empowering consumers to make informed decisions regarding personal finances, travel plans, and higher education.

Jeff Glik, Glik’s president and CEO, always says, “Great towns need great stores.” This is why the expansion of the store now allows Glik’s to offer a wide assortment of kid’s boutique brands that can’t be found anywhere else in the area. The selection of children’s clothing includes brands like Mud Pie, Tea Collection, Mae Li Rose, Mimi & Maggie, Mayoral, Giggle Moon and Glik’s private label 1897 Boys. The store now carries sizes for girl’s 7-16 as well with brands including popular preppy t-shirts from Simply Southern Collection, as well as fashion brands Hayden and Tea N Rose. The newly added kid’s department also includes boy’s sizes 8-20 and boasts a selection of popular brands including Under Armour, Billabong, Quiksilver, Hurley and Stance Socks.

Another exciting addition to the store is an Alex and Ani “Shop in Shop.” This concept has allowed a dedicated space within the Glik’s store to be solely dedicated to showcasing Alex and Ani merchandise. This is the first Shop Within a Shop for the brand in the Metro St. Louis area and allows the store to carry a wide assortment of bracelets, necklaces, and rings from the well-known East Coast jewelry vendor.

The premium outdoor brand, Yeti, has also been added to the Edwardsville sales floor. Customers can now shop for Yeti soft-sided coolers, vacuum-insulated stainless-steel drinkware, apparel and other related accessories from the brand.

The grand reopening kicks off with a ribbon cutting at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, March 9th. The ribbon, made of 119 dollar bills representing the 119 years that Glik’s has been in business, will be donated to the Edwardsville and Glen Carbon Chamber of Commerce.

Customers can enter to win $100 Glik’s gift card and Glik’s will also donate 10% of the day’s sales to Joe Glik Park in Edwardsville.

Glik’s Boutique Concept Store Opens in Holland, Michigan

Glik's Boutique in Holland, MI

This past Friday, May 2, 2014 marked the opening of Glik’s boutique, our first-ever women’s boutique, located at 37 East 8th Street in beautiful Holland, Michigan. While Glik’s had opened a store in Holland a year and a half prior that carried both men’s and women’s apparel, the inspiration for Glik’s Boutique came after the Holland customers requested more women’s fashion. While maxed out in space in our then current location, the opportunity arose to form both a Men’s Shop and a Women’s Boutique.

So at 10:00 am Friday morning, we cut the ribbon for the Grand Opening of Glik’s Boutique while just moments before we had celebrated the opening of the Glik’s Men’s Shop. And that wasn’t the only event being celebrated in Holland that morning.

Friday kicked off the 85th annual Tulip Time Festival in Holland, where there are around 6 million tulips planted and ready to soak up the springtime sun. Mr. Glik, pictured above, was in attendance along with owners and chief merchants Jeff and Jim Glik.

It takes a lot of time, effort, and talent to open a new store. We could not have made opening two incredible stores possible without all the hard work from our amazing employees. All elements of preparation are necessary for a successful store opening. Everything from painting the interiors to prepping the merchandise for customers is important.

Back to School in Columbia, Missouri

Columbia, Missouri, also known as College Town USA, is located smack dab in the middle of Missouri. Columbia is home to the University of Missouri (Mizzou), Stephens College, and Columbia College. Each fall the population of about 100,000 sees an influx of over 40,000 students join the Columbia community. Traffic increases and the historic downtown becomes alive and buzzing around the clock with students, visitors, and locals.

Glik's Store in Downtown Columbia, MO
Glik’s Store in Downtown Columbia, MO

Glik’s came to downtown Columbia in March of 2011. The store is located a block from the famous 9th Street in downtown where all of the favorite restaurants and student hangouts are situated. The District, as the downtown area is named, is in the center of all three college campuses, making it the prime hangout spot for students. The quaint downtown offers unique shopping with locally owned boutiques and a few fabulous vintage stores. The restaurants are eclectic and delicious, and if you have heard anything about Columbia, I’m sure you have heard of Shakespeare’s Pizza. Shakespeare’s is the restaurant of choice for locals as well as visiting college alumnae.

The Columbia Glik’s location stands apart from the typical Glik’s store. This college town brings in young adults from all over the country, which means a mix of fashion styles and a craving for fashion forward looks. When the buying team goes out to LA, they buy specifically with the Columbia store in mind. Mizzou is home of the Tigers, and the Glik team has made it a priority to seek out trendy, tiger-inspired apparel on all of their buying trips with the Mizzou fans and Columbia customers in mind.

As you move back to campus this fall, get acquainted with the town that your school is in. College towns always have quirky hangout spots and fun things to do and places to see. Go ahead and give yourself a back to school shopping spree as you wait for classes to get into full swing. The fall essentials this season are Southern Shirt Co tees & tankscombat boots, colored denim, moto jackets, fall scarves, and of course a backpack to tote around to classes! If you happen to live or go to school in Columbia, stop into Glik’s for exclusive, trendy products for back to school! Or check our online store at!

Take a Roadtrip to Minocqua, Wisconsin

When summertime hits and the streets seem to almost melt under the sizzling heat, I escape to the water. Like many others who are as lucky as I to have a home away from home near a body of water, summer signifies the opportunity to escape our normal lives in favor of a few days freedom.

I remember as a child helping my mother roll up sleeping bags, fold blankets, and pack coolers full of food to cook. My father always took care of the boat (his then baby). Once the truck was packed, boat hitched and everything strapped down, we were ready to head north to spend a few days immersed in the wilderness with a group of family friends who shared our passion for the same “great escape”.

Many of our northern Glik’s store locations are stationed in towns that are similar to the one that my family visited. Anytime I get the chance to share with others my childhood memories I am reminded of all the wonderful northern places that Glik’s has settled into and how it would be nice to visit them.  One such place is Minocqua, Wisconsin.

486976_3246294029042_221863916_n(Photo c/o of Northwoods Muskies:  here)

Located in the hub of the Northwoods, Minocqua, WI sits in the middle of thousands of acres of pine and hardwood forests that expand over the northern glacier landscape. This results in tons of isolated natural lakes that are so quiet that they seem untouched by man, and the echo of an uncommon loon can be heard echoing from shore to shore.  Sounds dreamy right?

image(Photo c/o of Minocqua Area Chamber of Commerce: here)

In addition to a TON of other native wildlife, the Minocqua area features shopping, supper clubs, cafes, outdoor outfitters, (my favorite) real lumberjack shows, museums, gaming, and one of the oldest amateur ski shows in the United States. All of this sounds pretty exciting, huh? Not forgetting to mention that Minocqua is one of the best fishing towns in America, being located within an area of over 2,300 bodies of fresh water (that’s the highest concentration in the world) has it’s perks. Minocqua is also home to the North Highland- American Legion State Forest. The NH-AL is the largest state forest in Wisconsin boasting 223,000 acres that feature 18 family campgrounds and 130 canoe and remote campsites.

Fishing Mino(Photos c/o of Minocqua Area Chamber of Commerce: here)

With so many things to do in the Minocqua, WI area I had to ask our local Glik’s store Co-Managers, Judy and Sandi what their favorite things were to do in their home town.

Where are a few of your favorite places to eat in Minocqua?

Judy- That would be The Thirsty Whale.  This uniquely built restaurant has been entertaining customers for more than 100 years and is famous for their (heaven sent) fried cheese curds.  Stop by, sit-down, relax, and enjoy a Spotted Cow on draft with your char-grilled burger and cheese curds while experiencing a first-hand view of the local ski shows or casual boaters who pass by.

Thirsty Whale(Photo c/o The Thirsty Whale blog: here)

Are there any interesting facts about the Minocqua Area that you would like to share?

Sandi– Minocqua is on an island! Water and beautiful wooded areas surround us, and there is also an exotic wildlife park!!! Doesn’t get better than that for the summer!

PICT0082(Photo c/o of the Northwoods Wildlife Center: here)

Does Minocqua have any famous/popular community events?

Judy– The community holds several craft fairs throughout the year as well as the MOST FAMOUS event of course, Minocqua’s own BEEF-A-RAMA (held in September).

100_28481 Screen shot 2013-07-12 at 11.01.43 AM(Photos c/o of

Lastly, what do you ladies feel is unique about your particular Glik’s store location?

Judy– Glik’s in Minocqua is unique just because of the area that we are located in. We’re a small, hometown community that is surrounded by water and nature. Our Glik’s store caters to the exact area that we are located in providing product that supports the local weather and recreation requirements while at the same time providing unique fashions to the community that are on-trend and easily accessible.

If you’re considering a vacation or are already a resident of the area we invite you to come see us!

Can’t forget to share this exiting news!!! The Minocqua Blast Fox Wake Demo will be at the Minocqua Bats next week, July 17th at 7pm!

Stop by our Eagle River location from 2-4pm for a chance to meet the team and snag a few autographs. Can’t make it? That’s okay, the guys will be at our Minocqua, WI location for in-store signing on July 18th from 11am- 1pm too!
