While we take a look back at 2023 and all the amazing things Glik’s has accomplished, there’s one thing that stands out from the rest: giving back to our communities. As Glik’s mission states, “Enrich the communities we serve…”, giving back to the greater community has always been an extension of our business. In 3rd Quarter 2023, we took the next step of giving back by launching a new feature on gliks.com allowing customers to donate 1% of their order to a select group of nonprofits. Customers have the option to donate 1% of their total purchase to 1 of 4 charities Glik’s has chosen (no additional charge is given to the customer, and they are not automatically opted in to donating a % of their order). We’ve chosen these nonprofits based on areas we are passionate about as a business at both local and national levels, and they can be updated as needs change within our communities! Currently, our 4 charities include Choose Love Movement, US Vets, Alliance for the Great Lakes, and Second Hand Hounds. More information on these nonprofit organizations can be seen below. Where is Glik’s Giving Back?
Choose Love Movement is inspired by 6-year-old Jesse Lewis, his final acts of love, and his mother’s path of forgiveness after Jesse was killed in a school shooting. Their mission is to create safer and more loving communities through Character Social Emotional Development programs (CSED) that are suited for all stages of life. Glik’s donations help fund a year-long social and emotional learning program for 1500 children.
US Vets is on a mission to end veteran homelessness by providing transition assistance to military veterans and their families through the provision of housing, counseling, career development, and comprehensive support. Their core values are Instill Hope, Embody Loyalty, Prioritize Partnership, and Pursue Excellence. Glik’s donations help fund 300 meals for veterans experiencing homelessness.
The Alliance for the Great Lakes is a nonpartisan nonprofit working across the region to protect our most precious (important) resource: fresh, clean, and natural waters of the Great Lakes. They work to protect the lakes and their communities by fighting for environmental justice, reducing plastic pollution, assessing water affordability, and many other ways that help the Great Lakes stay clean. Glik’s donations help fund supplies to run 60 adopt-a-beach cleanup days across the Great Lakes.
Second Hand Hounds is a nonprofit animal rescue in Minnesota. Founded in July 2009, they provide safe shelter, proper veterinary care and daily necessities for animals at risk, while also working to find each a permanent, loving home. Glik’s donations help fund 1500 meals for dogs at this no-kill shelter in Minneapolis, MN.
Along with this new initiative on gliks.com, our brick-and-mortar stores are still making an impact in their communities as well. From our annual Glik’s Give Back Day in October, participation in community events, and being involved in the town’s local Chamber, there is always something that our associates are getting involved in. Whether it’s giving back our time, money, or other resources, our Glik’s associates are truly a family, and we strive to treat everyone like family in our communities and beyond.
