1. The Length. When I think of fall fashion, I think about leggings, tights, and boots. Whether you wear leggings and boots with a dress or long tunic, the Romaine Coat by BB Dakota is the perfect way to add … Continue reading
The bright hues and daring prints of summer have passed on the wayside… but fear not; fall makes a bold move by making plays on summer’s biggest trend: Aztec. So make way for geometrical patterns with bold pops of color this fall because this year’s hottest style for prints is undoubtedly the tribal theme.
This tribal trend has trickled down from the runways to the masses and evolved-somewhat appropriately for fall 2013 to feature Aztec, Navajo and southwestern designs. No matter what the outfit, your look is instantly trendy when wearing a tribal themed print.
Bold geometrical shapes, daring color combos, and a mix of various patterns and lines make-up the various tribal prints that dominate the fashion world. We’ve seen this pattern’s colors range from bold neons to dusty earth tones, and depending on your particular taste, Aztec prints can be casually be paired with any solid hue to anchor or even uplift your look.
Scarf: Warm and Cozy Infinity Scarf
The BB Dakota Davina Coat’s neutral earth tone Aztec pattern pairs perfectly with the contrasting burnt sienna hue of this chunky knit infinity scarf. Build on this bohemian traveler theme by wearing a pair of dark denim skinny jeans with under the knee boots.
How to Pull It Off.
If you’re new at the tribal trend and want to take the first step towards dominating this new ‘look’, then play it smart and invest in pieces that you’ll actually wear. We know that part of fashion’s allure is the idea of its wearer to be daring, and that’s great. If you know you will wear it, then buy it… but more often than not (speaking from personal experience), not all great ideas are seen through, especially when it comes to clothing. I cannot tell you how many articles of clothing from seasons past that I have adorning my closet with the tags still attached. It’s ridiculous… ask my mother. Actually, don’t.
Classic items for fall like coats, cardigans, sweaters, scarves, and even hats are ideal editions to your closet that promise to see some use. The key to cold weather is layer, layer, layer; add some flair by adding a pop of Aztec print! This lightweight, Aztec print cardigan features black, brown, grey and stone hues that can be mixed-and-matched with any article of clothing in your closet.
Aztec Fringe Poncho (similar available here)
Simply adding a floppy brimmed hat, touches of silver accents and boots to this oxblood red, color pop Aztec sweater uplifts whatever look you’re going for. The fringe detail of this sweater would look great paired with dark denim jeans or even a fun and free maxi. Again, layering is fun, as well as key for achieving a fashion forward fall look.
Uplifting Your Aztec Look.
Not all tribal patterns have to say classic and neutral. Fashion forward brands like, Everly, an LA based company who produce most of their apparel in the USA, are taking an exotic take on Aztec patterns by adding sequin, metallic, and beading details. This women’s Aztec sequin shift dress from Everly is just asking to be styled with gold accessories and 4 ½ inch platform heels (we’re also big fans of the ankle boot with buckle accenting) for a night out on the town. Just remember to bring along a fun, faux leather jacket to don with the temperature drops and you’re set.
Wearing tribal prints can be fun and demonstrates that you know how to have fun with fashion. The key is to not over-think what you’re wearing. Consider taking a look at all of the great, fashion forward Aztec items that we carry at gliks.com or stopping by one of our 60 Midwest store locations to find the perfect tribal print for your fall 2013 wardrobe.
Moto jackets may have established their street cred long ago – and we’re not just relating to the Harley- Davidson community’s continued use – but fashion’s finest has grown to fully embrace this classic, asymmetrical zipper jacket and it’s many forms as a major Fall 2013 trend. Seen everywhere from the runways to the streets, faux leather jackets are being re-imagined by way of color, prints and fabrics, but we cannot forget the most recent makeover that the moto jacket has embraced – the loss of its sleeves. Some might consider this a tragic accident, but by no means can this be considered a disability.
Vest. Yes, that is the proper word to now associate our iconic (former) jacket with. Summer has come to its end recently and if there is one essential that we (and the fashion community) suggest investing your hard earned, well-budgeted dollars into, it’s a faux leather moto vest.
The always fashionable, Jack by BB Dakota brand has introduced the Teagan faux leather vest to their fall 2013 collection, and we love mixing and matching this moto-inspired vest with other elements of our wardrobes. Here are three of our favorite looks for fall.
Tribal – inspired prints have made their transition into the fall 2013 season in a big way. Bold, bright, and colorful hues pattern play with one another on everything from dresses, pants, tops and jackets, down to scarves and jewelry. We styled the Jack by BB Dakota Teagan vegan leather moto vest with an aztec print dress (available in select Glik’s stores), gold pendant necklace, and the Afton–14 riding boot from Gomax shoes.
Armed in Faux Leather:
There’s just something about army green that has style-stalkers from all walks of life rushing to add this military associated hue to their closets. This pair of army green harem pants takes both style and comfort to the next level. The Steely -02 Velvet Stiletto Booties from Qupid adds just the right amount of feminine-edge to your look.
Street Style Stalker:
Fashion isn’t reserved for just the runways; it’s the inspiration that ignites the imaginations in us all, then we take it to the streets, literally. Street style fashion is raw, unique, and unapologetic. What and how we interpret ourselves at any given moment, day, time can be seen in our choice of outfit ensembles. The edge of the studded ankle boots and the Jack by BB Dakota Teagan Vest, mixed with this color pop hoodie and muted grey Flying Monkey skinny denim jeans is a personal favorite for fall. This casual-cool look can work with any hooded item in your closet – even that vintage hoodie that you can never seem to part with!
Style is what you make it, so don’t be afraid to play with it! You can find the Jack by BB Dakota Teagan Faux Leather Vest online at gliks.com or in select Glik’s store locations. So throw up your sign and represent that LA fashion!
Leather, pleather, faux leather, vegan leather – whatever you choose to call it – there is no shortage of it for fall. Leather details are all over the place; from leggings and sweaters to bracelets and bags, leather accents are one of the hottest trends this season. Leather accents are an edgy way to bring your spring wardrobe into the fall months. Toss on a pleather jacket over your floral dress and pair with some combat boots – perfection!
With faux leather accents dominating the fashion world, brands are finding creative ways to incorporate the material into sweaters and wovens. You can find leather details on sleeves of tops and dresses, a whole skirt or dress made of faux leather, or a pop of black pleather on the collar of a sheer chiffon top. It is oh so easy to incorporate this trend into your wardrobe!
Faux leather does not have to be relegated to hardcore rock stars or bikers – which is the beauty of this trend. You can make leather accents look as edgy or feminine as you want. I love mixing and matching edgy pieces with overtly girly pieces to balance the look out. If edgy is your style, go for pleather head to toe, why not?!
The leather details trend brings the runway to your closet. We can take notes from Phillip Lim, Ralph Lauren, and Burberry with all of their drop-dead gorgeous leather jackets and leather accented pieces and translate them to real life, affordable and adorable clothing that you can wear day to day. Here are some of our favorite faux leather pieces.

We know that there is still a decent amount of summer left, but it never hurts to start thinking ahead towards semi-cooler days. I don’t know about you, but now is the time that I start thinking about fall. I am a serious fan of the clothing… added cozy layers, socks, boots, light jackets, maybe a light scarf… there is no reason why you should deny the slight warming effect of these items. I definitely can’t deny the pull that a rad new pair of ankle boots has on me.
That’s why this year is going to be different. I’m getting a head start. It helps that gliks.com is quickly filling up with amazing, new pre-fall fashion essentials for you to choose from. I’ve decided to narrow my search down to 5 items that I can totally incorporate into my existing summer wardrobe for those cooler summer days and nights. I know that these 5 key items will transition perfectly into fall.
A quality pair of ankle boots is something that you can absolutely not live without! I LOVE ankle boots, and normally wear them year round. Ankle books can be worn with shorts and tanks, or with maxi skirts, little dresses. Transition your ankle boot over to fall by pairing them with denim jeans and tights– I like adding socks too. We just started receiving some of our pre-fall ankle boots in and so far I’m a pretty big fan of the: Banjo Ankle Bootie, Missile- 13 Military Boot, and pretty much all of the Roxy Fall 2013 collection that will be hitting gliks.com this week– so don’t forget to watch for them.
I can’t forget to talk about an absolute Back to School Essential for pretty much everyone, Backpacks. Whenever I think of fall, I think of backpacks. Admittedly, my taste has changed now since was 8 and Lisa Frank ruled my world, darn unicorns got me every time. Now, I think along the lines of utility. I’m not in school anymore (sadface), graduating and “growing-up” has –somewhat–stepped in, but I still use a backpack for all of the traveling that I do on the weekends. I can’t go to a music festival or thrift hunt without my trusty backpack. School is just around the corner, so all the more reason to snag a great backpack, right? Also pictured is a pair of our Flying Monkey Premium Denim Skinny jeans. A few new pair of denim for fall is always a must-have! We have a huge selection of both women’s Silver Jeans Co long denim and LA Idol denim in various leg openings.
A lightweight jacket is another (definite) key item to have for fall– something that you can just throw on when the temperature cools down and not feel weighted down. I’m really digging our selection of vegan friendly leather jackets. The Jack by BB Dakota Bowen Jacket is a favorite of mine. Adding a scarf makes a world of difference to your look, too.

It’s an otherworldly city, in the middle of the desert, filled with lights, outlandish occupants, entertainment, and most importantly, Magic. I’m not referring to the David Copperfield show at MGM Grand. No, I’m referring to Magic Trade Show, and the Glik’s buying team traveled to Las Vegas, Nevada this week for the sole fashionable purpose of style.
This monster of a convention plays host to shoe, apparel, and accessory brands from ALL over. If you’re in retail, no matter what your division, this is the place to be. Literally, there is so much going on in this small 72 hour window of time that–if you’re not careful– you have a chance of loosing your mind to sensory overload.
Here’s just a sneak peek of what happened in Vegas.
Our current obsession: Chevron.
LA Idol denim
Love these riding boots.
Day 2 was spent with the men’s team at Project.
Day 3 was spent with the women’s team again at Magic. We met with morning appointments then spent the afternoon looking for new fashion brands.
Meanwhile, back home in the Midwest…
We can’t wait to share with you more photos from Magic Trade Show! Stay tuned!!
Chevron. There is definitely a bit of history behind this zig-zag print. It has been seen in badges, architecture, and as far back as ancient pottery, but in 2012 the chevron pattern emerged and evolved into a popular trend in the fashion scene.
What more can we say? There are many fantastic qualities to behold when it comes to this geometric print, but we believe its best attribute has to be its versatility. Whether the zig-zag stripes are close together or far apart, in bold colors or subtle hues, you can achieve a range of drastically different “looks” with this pattern.
Even used as a small accent or as a statement piece, Chevron has the ability to vamp up any wardrobe!
We can’t go on without sharing another wonderful quality of this print … it has a totally adaptable, do-it-yourself quality as well Due to the simplicity of chevron’s pattern, it has become a “go-to” design for crafters from all different walks. Just visit any Pinterest board and you can see the famous zig-zag print being painted on everything from picture frames to rugs, walls, home decor and even being used in re-purposing old furniture (we suggest checking this out).
Bottom Line: Chevron’s versatility makes it a must-have for your closet.
Maybe it has something to do with the new year starting, out with the old in with the new, right? It always seems like January is the time when you want to mix things up a little bit and bring some of that “newness” to your style and perspective. 2013 is still super fresh and so are your forward thinking ideas.
This has been the first week–since the endless, mind numbing counting from inventory– that we have been allowed to bust into all of the brown boxes stacked in the back of Glik’s warehouse. It’s always a fun time when you have boxes upon boxes of new spring clothing to sift through and share with others. Call it the “perks of the job,” and probably the reason why my wardrobe is always on the edge of erupting like a volcano of color and fabrics.
This week new arrivals from BB Dakota and Jack Clothing for Spring 2013 started to arrive. I felt inspired so I threw together a few outfits that incorporated new styles with already existing.
Say hello to throwback floral prints and bight splashes of accent colors.
Whether dressed up or down, metallic denim can add an extra dash of edge to any outfit.
Pastels will make their presence known this spring. What girl can say no to these light, breezy, and beautiful colors?
With New Year’s Eve only a few days away, it’s time to narrow down your options and decide what to wear. If your party plans involve a swanky gathering with all of your friends or a night out on the town with no set path, we have just the right outfit for your adventure.

If you’re still burnt out from all that strenuous holiday shopping, then I suggest pulling out that trusty LBD you keep nestled in you closet and dressing it up for whatever occasion you have ahead of you. Recharge your classic dress by pairing it with glittery accessories like a glitzy statement necklace or chandelier earrings, adding shimmery heels and maybe even an accented clutch.
Jeans: Miss Me (here)
Top: Jack by BB Dakota (here)
If you’re more “at home” in a comfy pair of jeans then I would suggest denim with a little glitz to it. Go-to brands like Miss Me and LA Idol Jeans are known for their “blinged out” back pocket designs and are worthy of any NYE bash. Just pair these designer inspired denim jeans with a cute fashion top, statement heels, and accessories for a complete look. Once you have your outfit complete all you’ll need is hair & makeup. Be sure to visit us on Pinterest for New Year’s Eve ideas!
Now all you need is a kiss 3…2…1…Happy New Year!!!
