“Come on girls. Do you believe in love? Express yourself!” Sound familiar? If not let me tell you, “The Queen of Pop” Madonna sang that loud and proud in 1989. Who better? The woman is viewed as a cultural icon and … Continue reading
The bright hues and daring prints of summer have passed on the wayside… but fear not; fall makes a bold move by making plays on summer’s biggest trend: Aztec. So make way for geometrical patterns with bold pops of color this fall because this year’s hottest style for prints is undoubtedly the tribal theme.
This tribal trend has trickled down from the runways to the masses and evolved-somewhat appropriately for fall 2013 to feature Aztec, Navajo and southwestern designs. No matter what the outfit, your look is instantly trendy when wearing a tribal themed print.
Bold geometrical shapes, daring color combos, and a mix of various patterns and lines make-up the various tribal prints that dominate the fashion world. We’ve seen this pattern’s colors range from bold neons to dusty earth tones, and depending on your particular taste, Aztec prints can be casually be paired with any solid hue to anchor or even uplift your look.
Scarf: Warm and Cozy Infinity Scarf
The BB Dakota Davina Coat’s neutral earth tone Aztec pattern pairs perfectly with the contrasting burnt sienna hue of this chunky knit infinity scarf. Build on this bohemian traveler theme by wearing a pair of dark denim skinny jeans with under the knee boots.
How to Pull It Off.
If you’re new at the tribal trend and want to take the first step towards dominating this new ‘look’, then play it smart and invest in pieces that you’ll actually wear. We know that part of fashion’s allure is the idea of its wearer to be daring, and that’s great. If you know you will wear it, then buy it… but more often than not (speaking from personal experience), not all great ideas are seen through, especially when it comes to clothing. I cannot tell you how many articles of clothing from seasons past that I have adorning my closet with the tags still attached. It’s ridiculous… ask my mother. Actually, don’t.
Classic items for fall like coats, cardigans, sweaters, scarves, and even hats are ideal editions to your closet that promise to see some use. The key to cold weather is layer, layer, layer; add some flair by adding a pop of Aztec print! This lightweight, Aztec print cardigan features black, brown, grey and stone hues that can be mixed-and-matched with any article of clothing in your closet.
Aztec Fringe Poncho (similar available here)
Simply adding a floppy brimmed hat, touches of silver accents and boots to this oxblood red, color pop Aztec sweater uplifts whatever look you’re going for. The fringe detail of this sweater would look great paired with dark denim jeans or even a fun and free maxi. Again, layering is fun, as well as key for achieving a fashion forward fall look.
Uplifting Your Aztec Look.
Not all tribal patterns have to say classic and neutral. Fashion forward brands like, Everly, an LA based company who produce most of their apparel in the USA, are taking an exotic take on Aztec patterns by adding sequin, metallic, and beading details. This women’s Aztec sequin shift dress from Everly is just asking to be styled with gold accessories and 4 ½ inch platform heels (we’re also big fans of the ankle boot with buckle accenting) for a night out on the town. Just remember to bring along a fun, faux leather jacket to don with the temperature drops and you’re set.
Wearing tribal prints can be fun and demonstrates that you know how to have fun with fashion. The key is to not over-think what you’re wearing. Consider taking a look at all of the great, fashion forward Aztec items that we carry at gliks.com or stopping by one of our 60 Midwest store locations to find the perfect tribal print for your fall 2013 wardrobe.
Printed leggings are popping up everywhere! Aztec, animal, camo, galaxy, geometric, stripe, you name it, it’s out there. This trend can be a bit intimidating if you aren’t used to wearing a lot of pattern, but wearing printed leggings doesn’t have to be scary or overwhelming. No matter what print you choose to wear, keep the top simple and you will look great!
To pull off the printed legging trend all you need are some long, solid colored tops and sweaters. Once you have these basics, you can mix and match with as many different printed leggings as your heart desires.
We styled some looks to give you some inspiration on how to wear printed leggings:
Sweet and Sophisticated
Cheetah print is a classic pattern that is making a huge comeback this season. This cheetah print brings together neutral colors which makes completing the outfit super simple, you can wear any color(s) you want! We styled these cheetah print leggings with an over-sized, long white top (available in select Glik’s stores), rust colored infinity scarf, and chestnut studded booties.
Aztec printed leggings have a bohemian feel to them, so we paired ours with a loose fitting long t-shirt, moccasin booties, and an over-sized cardigan. Styling Aztec leggings is simple when you have some basic long t-shirts, sweaters, and cardigans.
Wearing camo print doesn’t have to be tomboy-ish. Glam up the camo print by pairing it with an embellished sweater and layering on the jewels. We styled these camo leggings with a black embellished sweatshirt (available in select Glik’s stores), Roxy Newton combat boots, over-sized nude clutch (available in select Glik’s stores), and a mix of gold jewelry.
Honestly, this past weekend was the first weekend in a long time that I have felt okay with leaving my jacket hung up in my closet at home. To say the least, I literally skipped down my stairs and into the street like a kid. Childish, I know.
I am completely okay with admitting my excitement over summer, sun, swimming, my developing tan, being outside, and most importantly, weekend road trips! We’re just two weeks shy of Memorial Day weekend people! This holiday is where families and groups of friends travel to beaches, lake houses and campgrounds for barbecues, boating, daylong golf outings, and fairs.
So with the return of the sun, its warmth and the much-welcomed showing of skin, it’s time to give your wardrobes an upgrade!
The first thing I think of when it comes to Memorial Day weekend is swimming. So no matter where you go, be sure to have your cutest bikini packed with a few necessities. I’ve chosen this super cute crochet fringe flyaway sweater from Oracle Fox for Billabong, the Trinity destructed cutoff shorts from Silver Jeans Co, and partnered them with a chic fedora, some braided jute sandals, and finished the look with a colorful tribal print beach bag to store your beach essentials.
Being that I am a HUGE fan of all things fringe right now AND colored denim, I thought it would be cute to partner this boho chic Belize fringe top from Jack by BB Dakota with a bright pair of orange Flying Monkey jeggings. If you’re out on an afternoon shopping spree with the girls or a grill out with the fam, an easy way to accessorize is with a pair of retro wayfarer sunglasses, some Pura Vida bracelets. To add some sass try tying up your hair with a cute printed scarf.
Down on the Boardwalk.
So you may have had a long day out in the sun and a shower is out of the question until your new tan has had a chance to set in for a few more hours. That’s okay. Take it from the beach to the street just by slipping into the BB Dakota Dora dress and let its soft striped jersey knit set your sun exposed skin free. Keep it stylishly simple with a pair of platform wedges and sunglasses, and set your style savvy apart with a neon crossbody bag.
Remember that it’s the weekend and bringing your WHOLE wardrobe isn’t necessary. Resort town = SHOPPING heaven, and you need room in your suitcase for all of your new fashion finds. Look for any of these fab items online at gliks.com or visit a Glik’s store location nearest to you!

These classic designs have a BoHo chic feel to them, making them perfect for just about any occasion, depending on the accessories.
This dress from Mind Code is perfect for either day or night. Pair it with your favorite gladiator sandals for the beach or dress it up for date night with a pair of wedges.
This great shirt from Valentine looks great paired with jeans and a chic Boho bag for a day at the mall.
Pair some feathered earings with this fabulous Navajo inspired dress from Lush for a great traditional look. This dress is also a razor back style, which is another hot look trend right now.
